Family Issue - April 20th 2011, 10:56 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

My family has been going through a really bad rough patch over the last few months.

Around December 2010, My mum and dad took the decision to break up after 23 years of marriage - after my dad announced he was gay to the family and that he had met someone else. This took the whole family by surprise and took us even more by surprise to be told that this has been going on for nearly 3 years.
I have since came to terms with this and have met his new partner who is a really nice fellow.

Around a month or so ago, I received a text from my mum which can only be described as a suicide note - Saying her goodbyes to the family.
I rushed home to find my mum had attempted to take her own life by taking a cocktail of medication. I rang an ambulance and she was rushed to hospital.
After overcoming one issue, I was then forced with the issue of seeing my mum at her lowest and wanting to end her own life.
I have since went to see counselling at my college, to which i am having frequent meetings with to help me overcome my family problems.
My mum has since received help from external services and seems to be on the mend.

A few days ago, I was called downstairs with my 12 year old sister for my mum to announce to us that she has started a relationship with my Godfather. At the moment, I feel like i'm back to square one and as the colleges are now off for the easter break, I cannot go seek the help from my college counselor. I also feel like there is no-one that i can turn to which is why i am seeking help and advice here.

I'm the type of person that does not express my emotions publically, However with what has happened over the last few months i have been finding it hard and harder to keep my emotions inside.

Can anyone please give me some help, assistance or advice on what i can do?

Many Thanks,
Ross

Hey Ross,

You don't need to keep your emotions inside. I'm sorry about all that has happened to you. No one should ever have to go through that. But listen, I'm glad you found this site. There are tons of people here who are willing to talk to you at any time. You need a strong support system in your vulnerable times and I hope you can find one. You will get through this.

It's definitely OK if you need to show how you're feeling. Oftentimes, if you don't, people will think you're better than you actually are, and that will make you feel even more alone than you do now.

Send me a PM if you want to talk.
Michelle
