Homesick - September 14th 2011, 10:46 PM

Ok, so I just started college like....three weeks ago, and I'm six hours away from home and right now I want nothing more than to go home. I really miss my dogs and my horse and my cat and my parents. I was always the one who was going to leave and never come back, but now all I want to do is go back home...

Hey
This is completely normal! Moving away from home is a big change and it takes a while to adjust (I know I was a wreck probably my first few months of college). Try not to let it get you down, but instead focus on doing lots of stuff, getting out and meeting new people. Once you've made some good friends you'll be so busy you won't get as homesick and before you know it it'll be time to go home for christmas or whenever you're next going. Hope you feel better soon

That's totally normal. Like dancinfool said, keep yourself busy. Plan a specific holiday or weekend you can go home and work towards it. You'll be fine!

I have things to do and plans timed to go home, but it doesn't help. It just feels like I'm slowly fading away.

I think once you get used to the campus and make friends it will get a lot better. It's a big transition, so it will take some time. But I've heard quite often that college is the most fun times a lot of people have had. Just find things you like about it and have some fun! It will get better

And here you are living, despite it all.

You having just moved away, it's natural that you're going to miss your home, and all your family. I just moved away from home for the first time back in July. I missed old life desperately. But I needed the change to further my life. Also, it had to happen one day or another. As time goes by, you're going to get used to being away from family, and it's going to become easier. What you can do is write your family letters, visit them often, skype with them and call them. It will make things a little easier. At first I talked to my mom every day, and recently, I don't talk to her but a few times a week. So, trust me- it gets better. Just keep hanging in there.<3
