I never understand my dad's logic. -
December 30th 2011, 04:27 PM
We're getting a second-hand TV off my mum's friend. She bought a new TV and hasn't got any room for the old one. It's a lush TV, it's widescreen, 27 inches, LCD and it's awesome. Our TV downstairs is falling apart, there's cracks in the side, the "on" button doesn't work anymore so my dad made his own
it's basically a light switch which turns the TV on and it's small. Any sane person would swop the nice TV with the crap one. He doesn't want to :| He said we'll wait for it to break completely before replacing it. It's breaking already. I understand the whole "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" saying but he goes over the top. We had a TV when I was a kid where the picture would turn black and white after 10 minutes, you'd have to switch it off and then turn it back on for it to go back to colour. We had the TV doing that for three months before it broke all together. I just don't see the point in keeping something old and crap when you have something better :| I'm not saying throw the TV out, just keep it as a back up instead of the other one. ![]() |

I understand what you mean. My family is polish - and are similar. We could have a brand new TV but wont use it until the other one breaks. I think its more how people grow up - to conserve instead of just throwing away stuff.Trust me, I don't think you will ever understand his logic - but unfortunately, these traits of wanting to keep things and be Conservative sometimes do pass down from generation to generation and although you may not see it now - please realize how you feel about this situation so that when you are older - you aren't the same way. The logic of a person who likes to keep things is often as hard as trying to understand a hoarder who keeps things they don't need. Don't confuse yourself by trying to figure out what hes thinking - its best to role with the punches.
Best wishes, Chris Chris Jackson
