:'( My parents - January 2nd 2012, 06:28 PM

My dad has a drinking problem....well it seems like he does. He drinks all the time, ALL the time. My parents have been married for 22 years and he didn't start drinking heavily until a few years ago after he went through cancer. He hasn't quit since and it has definitely tore my parents apart. Now my mom wants to divorce him. I understand her reasoning, but she is the only one that can talk sense into him besides my grandfather. Alcohol messes with the best of people. :/

Enjoy the little things in life, for someday you will realize they were the big things.

That's rough man. There's nothing you can really do. Well you could try get him some professional help but he really has to be willing to help himself also. It's unfair that you have to be caught up in it all. I honestly think alcohol should be just as illegal as marijuana! It's extremely destructive and as you know it doesn't only mess with the user, it has a knock on effect with the whole family. I hope your dad comes to his senses soon. Hang in there & feel free to PM me any time

I agree - the things that are out there like alcohol and drugs and such things just mess with people and it seems like they are never even there selves anymore. There really isn't much you can do but support your mom and dad because I'm sure its not easy for your mom to make the decision that she wants a divorce, but sometimes we have to resort to that. So I would stand by your mom AND you dad even though he is an alcohol - because I'm sure he will be drinking even more after the divorce to calm down his 'stress' or any other emotions. So just be there - and try to understand why your mom is doing this (which I think you do understand) and just take it one day at a time.

Best wishes,
Chris
