Getting Married - March 27th 2009, 07:34 AM

Hi, um... i dont know where to start.
I'm getting married Monday... and i dont know how to tell anyone. Especially my mom. I want to move out too. My sister knows but shes no help on how to tell anyone. I'm afraid everyone is going to hate me and i dont want a bad relaionship with my mom. I dont know what to do or where to start. We just got our marriage license today and we're getting married monday at the court house.

Why have you not told your family that you are planning on getting married? I know if I just surprised my parents with news that I was getting married in three days, they would flip out on me. I'd tell them NOW. Not tonight, not tomorrow, NOW. And maybe include them in this wedding? No matter how you tell them, they are going to be upset. I'd just tell them- nice and quick and get it over it.

I agree with Brittney. I'm not sure why you haven't told anyone, but I suppose this isn't any of my business... I recommend, at least for your mother, sitting them down and coming out with it. "Mom, I'm getting married," I imagine, should suffice, as slipping a "So... I'm getting married Monday..." into a casual conversation isn't what I'd call appropriate. I also agree with that the sooner you tell them, the better, especially since the longer you wait, chances are the more upset they'll be. Congratulations on the marriage, in any case, and good luck!

Hi Melk,

I think it would be appropriate that you tell your mom, maybe with your fiance if that would make you feel more comfortable. It's a good thing that you're starting to make choices on your own, but your mom is still your family and I'm sure she would like to hear the news. It might take her a while to be okay with it, but I'm sure that once she realizes you are happy she'll be fine.
