she's driving me insane!! - March 30th 2009, 05:26 PM

grrrrrrrrr. i'm so angry at my mom it's unbelievible.

the list of EVERYTHING she's done wrong is impossible to type up tbhh. but heres the long and short of it;

she has treated me like a baby my entire life
i'm sixteen years old and im not allowed out after school, not allowed to friends houses, sleepovers...
i wasn't allowed to cross the road alone until i was 13
i wasn't allowed a phone until i was 14.
i wasn't allowed INTO TOWN until i was 15! 15!!

she calls and texts me constantly when i go to town at the weekend to meet my boyfriend after work (he comes round to my house every night so its not like she doesn't trust him!)

and basically, she treats me like shit. pure shit. i'm sick of it.
in fact, once i have moved out she will NEVER see me again. i repell her.
she thinks she understands me - but in fact she knows nothing about me.
she takes no interest in me. whatsoever.

i have a brother aged 13 and a sister aged 11. she treats them like the sun shines out of them. but me? who cares!

and now this. the latest thing that has made me flip into rant mode: THE PROM!

the prom is in june. i've been asking for a prom dress since OCTOBER! that's 6 months - HALF A YEAR.

i found the perfect design and i wanted to go to a dress makers store to get it fitted for me - so it would fit. it was all within the budget. seems reasonable, aye? NOT FOR MY MOM!

she doesn't have time, money, effort...excuses all the time.

and now shes planning on taking me next week - when my art c/w needs to be done! i asked in october so i can get it sorted BEFORE the exams and c/w started. Now it is waaaay too late.

and to top it off, she doesn't CARE about what i want for prom. she doesn't know any stores to get dresses from. and she doesn't listen to what i want. when i tell her about it, she just storms off and yells at me.

and thats the other thing, she expects to get the entire prom sorted in ONE DAY! THE DRESS, SHOES, BAG, HAIR AND MAKE UP IN ONE DAY. it's NEVER going to happen.

i don't even wanna go now - if i go i'll end up in a dress that i hate, with no make up, no hair style...no NOTHING. nothing but ugly.

anyone got ANY tips to talk to her AT ALL?
i've spoke to teachers, friends and other family members. but NOTHING.

wow... That sounds exactly like my mom... Except for the fact that you have a cell.. your mom actually lets you date.. and you actually have 2 siblings... to be some reason as to why you dont get so much attention/effort/money..

I wish you luck!

Hey there,

Your mom doesn't sounds too off from most moms I know, to be honest. I know she sounds strict, but I still know moms who text and phone up their teenagers when they go out and have to know where they are at all times. The crossing the road thing seems extreme, but the going into town thing is about average where I live, I'd say.

Try not to get too frustrated about her being overprotective. As my dad would say, 'She's a mom and that's her job'. She's not being overprotective for the heck of it, she's doing it because she cares about you. It can be hard to believe, and unfair a lot of the time, but that's a parent's logic.

I think you should try talking to your mom about what you need to get done for the prom and how long it will take. Outline everything so that she knows exactly how long it will take to do, so she knows you will need more than one day. Be specific with times. Is there still time to get your dress fitted at the dress makers? If there is, then I'd say to do it. You've been planning this for a while, so it should turn out fine.

I know it's hectic right now, but do your best to schedule your time. Set aside time for your work and time for your shopping. You can always go to get shoes one night and get your hair done another night.

Also, understand that having fun at prom doesn't have to do with just what you're wearing. You can still enjoy yourself no matter what you go in.

I hope everything works out for you.

your mom sounds like my mom she does this because she loves you and you will appreciate it one day. just try and live a couple more years with her and then you will be off to college well maybe and then you will be missing her
