Making Friends - it's not working - March 2nd 2012, 10:03 AM

Hey, i'm really not sure where I should put this.

I'm finding it really difficult to make friends, i've honestly tried. Yesterday I was blanked by two people I though were friends. And it really stung becaue I said Hello, waved, smiled etc but they both acted as though I didn't exist.

I'm almost giving up on the idea of having friends. Heck, I even buy birthday things and I didn't get a thank you! I got blanked.
I spend most days alone because I don't have anyone to hang out with.

I don't know what to do. Where else can I try and make friends? i'd like suggestions if you can
Also, what is it i'm doing wrong? I act like anyone else does. I'm not interested in music really because that's kinda impossible, but surely people don't not like me for that?

xx

You sound like a great friend - the problem is you cant find anyone to share that great friendship with! You have all the right qualities (caring, loving, giving, non-selfish), so Its hard for me to understand why you don't have a good friend base.

I would recommend going out more. Sounds hard? It is at first. Put yourself out there. Join clubs, groups, sports. Volunteer at places, build friendships. You wont make Friends being on the computer (besides cyber-friends). You need to get out there! Talk at school, participate in group projects. Talk to those next to you! Open up (but still be yourself)! It will take alot of time, effort, confusion, and heartbreak - but its worth it!

Best wishes,
Chris

Chris
I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...

Since your in school, talk to your desk mate about something, like what your learning, or ask about things, since it sounds like your newish.... and, just be you, you'll make friends!

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep
It's not 'cause you're not with me, it's cause you never leave

I second what Chris said. I was in the exact same situation as you when I first came to the school I now go to. It didn't cange until I finally heard about and joined Japanese Club (since I have an affection for the drawing style). The club was filled with misfits just like myself and I'm still friends with almost everyone I met thre. Picking a club or five is the easiest way to make friends because you're meeting people who clearly have similar interests. I have a lot of homework every day because of the learning program I'm in but I still wouldn't give up clubs or extracurriculars for anything.
It might take a while, like it did for me, but eventually you'll have more than just cyber-friends to console you.
