Can't follow my dream :( - March 14th 2012, 06:19 PM

I have explained to mother over and over again that my dream is to be actress. I did drama at school and completely loved it. But instead of doing things that I wanted to do, I did things people wanted to do to keep them happy. It was the biggest mistake of my life, even now if I want to go to auditions, even just to be an extra in a tv show she stops me, won't give me my money or bank card and I am 22 years old. I just want to follow my dream but mother seems to think its a crime. It's all I have ever wanted, I wasted four years at college doing a course that my mother wanted me to do I really don't know what to do! I want this so badly but all my mother does is cause problems so that I can't.

Idk what type of person your mother is, but have you tried talking to her about it?

Get a job (perhaps that's how you can use your degree), save up money, move out, live as an independent adult, and go to auditions when you have free time. Honestly, that's about all you can do. If your mom is convinced that acting is a waste of time, or that a career in acting won't pay the bills, then there's nothing you can really do, other than removing yourself from her control and proving her wrong.

I have to agree with Robin. The only way to be able to do what you want (like being an actress) and go to auditions whenever you want to, is to be more independent. Independent can mean many of things. Maybe you wont have to move out, but then again, I don't know how you mother is. I think the first major step here is to get a job, your own car, and provide for yourself. If you feel it necessary, then I would get a place to live. Sooner or later you will have to do all of these things anyway, so you might as well start now. It wont happen over night, but its a goal - and that is better than fighting with your mom and getting no where.

Best wishes,
Chris

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...

22 years old and still blaming your mother for this sort of stuff?

Get off your backside and make it happen.

I don't have much more to say about this. Your mother isn't the cause of all problems here, it's you.
