it's me again :P - March 27th 2012, 06:09 PM

so, me and my best friend work together at an after school program where we watch kids until their parents come to pick them up, ive been working there since i was about twelve, working my way up to the position i now have, my best friend just started working there this past school year and she makes more money than i do, is it wrong for me to be a little bit jealous? and maybe hurt bc ive been working there longer and im just now making somewhat decent pay?

no, its normal to feel that way considering you've worked there alonger than she has. just try not to let it affect you and your friendship and just enjoy yourself there

Hi there,

I think that sounds a bit unfair to be honest. But, short of talking to whoever pays you, I'm not sure that there's much you can do. If it really bothers you, I suppose you could try and drop it into a conversation with your employer, or mention it to your friend in a jokey way (careful though, she may take offence).

Good luck

thanks for that, im sorta okay with it now, i just that maybe my being jealous made me a bad friend bc a true best friend would be happy for her girl right?

Well, of course you want to be happy for your friend... but you want what you "deserve" to have, too! I think these negative feelings are just being directed at the wrong person - your employer is the one who places more of a monetary value on your friend. Now, that could be because your friend is more qualified (even if she hasn't been around for as long, she may have had additional experience beforehand), or it could be because your employer hasn't thought to give you enough promotions/raises. So if you're going to bring this up with anyone, I would bring it up with your employer, not your friend. It's not her fault that you're getting paid less than she is!

thanks Robin i havent spoken to my friend about this bc its not her fault, plus i gotta be there for her, shes going thru a really tough time right now, and as for my employer, she explained to me why i wasnt getting paid as much bc shes the reason i knew i was making less bc she accidentally brought it up between me and my friend, which she apologized for, its all good

P.S. I like your picture :P
