Do bananas make you feel sick? - October 24th 2014, 03:35 PM

I'm trying to eat healthily. My mother bought some bananas and keeps telling me to eat them as they're supposedly good for depression/your mood. I haven't ate a banana in years because eating more than half of one makes me feel sick/nauseous for some reason.

I just ate one to see if I'm still the same and yes, I felt sick after eating 1/2 of it.

I don't dislike the taste, I actually quite like the taste. I just feel like I'm going to be sick if I eat anymore.

I wouldn't say I was "allergic" to bananas because once I stop eating them I feel fine, I get no real side effects, just feel nauseous whilst eating them.

Make Believe,
It could be a number of things. Everyone has some sort of food that they don't like to eat or that they feel sick from eating. If you don't like eating bananas, you don't have to.
For example, for me, I don't like eggs. I used to like eating eggs, but now I don't like eating them. I have tried to get myself to eat them, and I still don't like eating them. Just because you don't like a food, doesn't mean you are obligated to eat it anyway.

It's the same with porridge except I really don't like the taste of porridge. There's just a lot of healthy foods I don't really like. I'm like a child. I do like apples, I eat far too many apples :')

I've only had a few bananas in my lifetime because I'm not a fan of the consistency. Any food with a similar consistency like yoghurts and others are foods that I can't tolerate.

If you feel sick while eating them maybe you can eat them in another way? Perhaps you can slice it into smaller pieces or you can dry the dried version of bananas and other fruits.

My first thought: I'm not the only one!

I don't really get NAUSEA, but I get these stomach cramps when I eat them. For me, I can only really attempt to eat a banana if it has brown spots on them, and even then it's iffy. I like them though.

I agree with eating them in another way, such as the ways Cassie suggested, or maybe baking them into banana bread, muffins, etc?

I don’t feel sick because of them, but have sometimes had cramps. I just assumed I ate them quickly though.

Other ideas would be banana split, or fried bananas…though slightly counterproductive if you wanted to be healthy

Ahh I was totally gonna recommend bananas with porridge or oatmeal. I used to not like porridge/oatmeal either but I try cooking it with almond milk instead of water. It comes out sweeter :3 and different somehow. Same goes for rice pudding homemade

Have you tried banana in a smoothie? You can even decide how sweet you want it by choosing how ripe the banana is. I coordinate a healthy eating program with kids at a hospital and they loved using the blender and were willing to try stuff they were reluctant to eat befote it was blended including bananas DO:

No, not that I've noticed. I'm not huge on bananas unless I'm having them in a smoothie. They're sweet for me.

I don't like, or rather can't stand bananas or anything that has banana flavour in it because of this really nasty yellow banana flavoured antibiotic that I took for ear infections when I was younger. Bananas make me feel nauseous if I eat them now, or sometimes even the smell can make me feel sick. I never really liked the texture either though.

Bananas don't make me sick and I actually like bananas. I just don't like the gritty feeling they make my teeth feel like after eating one.

Maybe the reason bananas are making you sick is that your stomach simply can't tolerate them to a certain extent. Maybe whatever food you had eaten beforehand isn't mixing well with the banana.

I'm the same with vanilla. When I was little I had to go and see a dietician for a few years because I wouldn't eat very much (I eat too much now ) and they gave me horrible vanilla milkshakes to try and make me gain weight.

That's interesting. Maybe it's the sugar? Sometimes there can be a light coating/after taste with bananas that sits in your mouth if you don't drink something, maybe?

Usually bananas are known to ease an upset stomach, I've found this to be true.

Everyone's different though! There's probably no serious issue, so no worries. Just don't eat bananas :P there's so many other healthy foods!

OMG! I love bananas, it's a must have fruit in my house. I don't ever get sick from bananas, but if you do, you should try eating bananas in a different way. Like banana pikelets, banana muffins, banana smoothies, banana bread

If you want I can give you the recipe for the bread and muffins

Personally, I don't like the mushiness of bananas. I feel sort of grossed out when I eat them.
