Instant coffee not dissolving - March 31st 2015, 05:41 PM

Back in high school I bought instant coffee but the little granules would never dissolve. I couldn't even drink coffee I made with it because it would just be a cup of hot water with a ton of granules. I just tried making instant coffee again and got the same result. I'm wondering if I'm making it wrong? I made a cup of hot water and I only put one spoonful of Folgers in it but it didn't dissolve much, the water turned dark but all the granules are just floating at the top. Help?
EDIT: I did more searching and it looks like I'm not supposed to put it directly in water but use it in a coffee maker? Isn't the point of instant that you can just stir it in some water though? I'm not sure if I'm being dumb or not.

And here you are living, despite it all.

It sounds like you're using the instant kind that you put into a coffee brewer, especially if it says granules. The kind I use says it's crystals and looks like this.

But if it's granules and comes in this kind of container (below) it's probably for a coffee brewer.

So try to look for the first one or the kind that comes in single serve packets!
