Afternoon snacks - November 14th 2015, 10:03 PM

So I recently realized that I always want to eat a lot right after school because I'm super hungry and tired. Well at least I claim that I'm hungry but probably not.

I want to know some good recipes or healthy food choices for after school that will help with energy and fill me up. Do you guys have any ideas?

Ps. It can't have anything to do with wheat bread (contains high fructose corn syrup which is so bad for you). Thanks!

I really like peanut butter with banana or apple (or just peanut butter on a spoon lol), trail mix, or cereal also, I'm pretty sure I've seen wheat bread without corn syrup before, maybe check some other brands than the one you usually get if you want bread.

thanks. I do have other types of bread such as grain bread, and daves bread. but yea, I love peanut butter.

Hello there,
I have a few suggestions you could try out for a snack after school.

Could having some fruit appeal to you? You could have;
  • strawberries,
  • apples,
  • bananas,
  • pomegranate,
  • watermelon/melon, etc.,
You could also have veggies like;
  • celery,
  • carrots,
  • peppers (yellow, orange, red),
  • cucumber, etc.,
Some other things that you could have is tuna on crackers. You can put some ground pepper corns in the tuna for flavour.

If you have frozen fruit you can make a smoothie, you can use cows milk, almond milk, soy milk or rice milk or plain water. Sometimes I add in chia seeds or flax seeds to my smoothies.

You could also make stove top popcorn. In a pot you can put a little oil then kernels and put the lid on it on medium-high heat then you can turn the heat down a bit so you don't burn the popcorn. You move the pot a bit to shake the kernels up. This way you can control the amount of sodium you put on the popcorn and butter.

Just one question. I noticed that when I looked at this thread, it's green. Is that the same for you? Why is this thread green?

The posters above gave wonderful advice. A Smoothie could certainly be a healthy and tasty snack. Most likely a weird suggestion, but do you like animal crackers? They sound like a snack for children but not really. They're a good snack and easy to eat on the go or when you are busy. To add onto the idea of fruits and vegetables, do salads appeal to you? You could make a salad consisting of your favorites. For energy, you may benefit from eating hard-boiled eggs for instance. Estelle has the right idea about peanut butter! Not everyone likes it, but some put peanut butter on celery or apple slices. You could try it to see if you like it because it could become a healthy snack! If not, peanut butter on crackers could be good as well.

Or if you have some mixed nuts around a small handful or two works wonders as a good snack. I small pack of peanuts or mixed nuts is usually my after fasting meal. good source of energy, healthy fats and usually as a complete protein source in it too.

Vegetables with hummus is a great after school snack, as is apples with peanut butter or rice cakes with peanut butter. I also recommend popcorn that is butter free and add some sea salt to it. You can also make some smoothies, just put some fruit in a bag and throw it in the freezer for it to be quick.

I love love love afternoon snacks. I eat so much of them :'D My snacks are:
• Cheese with crackers, and grapes! It tastes better when there's grapes
• Home made popcorn with any spices. I put salt and pepper with Parmesan cheese on it and give it a toss.
• Fruit salad
• Frozen grapes. Your favourite grapes, put them in the freezer. Perfectly good for a hot day!
• Vegetables with hummus.
• Trail Mix with dried fruit - you can make your own muesli bars with trail mix too
• Smoothies with juice instead of milk is a good idea. My favourite smoothie is to mix orange juice with pieces of apples, oranges, mixed berries, and blend it up with ice. So good!
• Peanut butter with celery is good too!

I like making zucchini chips. It's just zucchini, a little salt, and a little oil. I make them in the microwave and normally microwave for 5 minutes, flip them, microwave another 5 minutes, flip, and then microwave for 1 or 2 minutes, flip again, 1 or 2 minutes and flip again, etc until they're done. You just put the salt on before you put them in the first time and then when you flip them the first time. You can make them in the oven too.
