Almond or Coconut milk? - January 18th 2016, 05:15 PM

I was just wondering whether any of you guys have had this type of milk before, Almond or Coconut? I was just wondering which would be best as I am getting my protein shakes on Wednesday and they are 2 of the types of milk you can use. Can anybody give me advice on which one is best?

It's probably a matter of personal taste. I love almond milk, but I don't get it very often, I only had coconut milk once when I was little and there wasn't that much of it (we got it out of a real coconut).

I prefer almond. It's probably be best to get a small bottle and try a shake with each, see which you prefer for yourself.
Or just go with almond

Re: Almond or Coconut milk? - January 18th 2016, 11:45 PM

I drink almond, coconut, and rice milk.

You can get almond and coconut milk in a variety of flavours. I tend to like the vanilla ones. I know there is chocolate, coconut (for almond milk), hazelnut, original, and others.

Almond milk has a smooth watery texture with a nutty taste. It is something I prefer. It goes down easy and there isn't a huge after taste.

Coconut milk has a strong taste of coconut, if I remember it's a bit thicker in texture but still light and smooth.

Rice milk, has a slight taste but basically smells like cooked rice which is very subtle. It is thick in texture and rich but has some smoothness to it.

It all depends on your preference. I would recommend trying each out if you can. Taste the original taste first for each, if you enjoy the texture, smell, and how it goes down try a flavour. If you don't like the coconut taste in general but are able to tolerate it (like in coconut treats, etc.) then you may or may not enjoy it. I found I enjoy coconut treats (cookies, bars, etc.) but not a huge fan of coconut milk, but I still drink it from time to time.

I typically either buy almond (vanilla or original) and rice milk (vanilla or original)

I would recommend experimenting to see what you like and don't like.

I like both! I'm lactose intolerant so I've stopped doing myself a disservice and removed dairy from my diet (shame I know ) then I looked into alternatives and I honestly like all the alternatives that I've tried but I'll focus on the two you've asked about.
I feel it is a matter of preference. I would suggest experimenting.
I generally enjoyed almond milk with oatmeal or when I bake cookies whereas coconut milk is drink it plainly. Almond milk I can drink plainly only if it has lots of honey .
On another note, coconut water from opening and pouring coconut tastes good too. Coconut is generally a love/hate taste. I don't know many people who are neutral about it, so maybe just getting acquainted with the distinct taste of a coconut can help you decide as that would have insight on what to buy.

I don't normally drink either of them but out of the two I prefer almond milk. But its really a matter of personal taste. It seems like almond milk is the most popular though. I've always heard its the best.

I buy almond milk for my house, but coconut is also delicious and I think it would be really good in protein shakes, especially if their vanilla or chocolate flavored.

I don't drink milk, but I've had almond milk in rice pudding, and coconut milk ice cream. Both are really good. You should try coconut milk as well. Also, coconut cream (like whipped cream) is really nice.

Mainly almond milk.

Re: Almond or Coconut milk? - January 25th 2016, 06:55 AM

I have no opinion. However, here's a quote relating to the topic of milk by my hero, Jim Harbaugh per an HBO piece:
As a third-grader Harbaugh was already determined to play quarterback in the NFL but, hailing from a family where no one was taller than six foot, knew his genetics were against him. “I had heard that if you drink milk it builds strong bones and convinced myself I was going to drink as much milk as I possibly could drink. Prayed about it a lot, ‘I want to be 6-2, I want to be 6-2.’ And then when I went to school here at St. Francis Elementary school I got a job as the milk distributor. So we just started delivering all the milk every day and we got one free milk for delivering all the milk. But every kid that was absent, that tray would go back to the little milk room and I would just drink as much milk as my belly could hold. I drank a lot of milk, Andrea. A lot of milk. Whole milk, though, not that candy ass two percent or skim milk.” Harbaugh stands 6-foot-3 today.
But please don't ruin this for me by saying, "cow milk isn't actually good for you".

Unsweetened, original almond milk is where it's at! ... Coconut milk is ok but I prefer it if I am getting coconut milk ice cream or something, like a sweet/desserty sort of thing.

Almond milk for a day to day use of course, it goes really well in coffee, smoothies, baking, etc. it's super light, way less calories than many alternatives (especially milk) and so on. I find coconut has a more over powering coconut taste, which is why I tend to be pickier about when I use it (even though I love coconut).

I recently had coconut milk in an espresso beverage and I was surprisingly pleased! It made it a bit sweeter than regular milk.

I really like cashew milk, it has some vitamin B12 which most of us are deficient in. It's also a bit creamier than almond milk.

And here you are living, despite it all.
