Smoothie without bananas? - August 23rd 2016, 03:11 PM

I've been eating a lot healthier and I have been looking into breakfast smoothies. I am willing to try almost anything, but right now I'm particularly interested in using peanut butter.

Most smoothie recipes, especially ones including peanut butter, have bananas in them. I do not like bananas but decided to give it a try anyway, and ended up nearly getting sick because of it and also feeling kind of discouraged. For some reason I just can't stomach them.

I did look and I saw a peanut butter smoothie with strawberries, and one with blueberries as well as vanilla and I'm going to try those next.

Are there any smoothies you make with peanut butter that don't have bananas in them, or any that you make in general that you like and would recommend? I've been doing research and so many of them have bananas, which I'm planning to substitute with some other fruit.

Is there a reason you're going with peanut butter? I personally really like mixing different berries together, so like blackberries and raspberries and strawberries. Strawberry and mango go well together too. If you have somewhere like Smoothie King or Tropical Smoothie you can always look up what options they sell and make them at home too!

Nah, there's no reason in particular. I was just interested in it but I'll try anything.

I actually have blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries that I'm going to try soon. I think I might end up liking that better. I haven't thought of strawberries and mango, but I'll have to give it a try!

I don't think I have any of those places around but I'll have to do some research to see.

Re: Smoothie without bananas? - August 23rd 2016, 05:49 PM

Glad I am not the only one who hates bananas that are not in their natural solid form! This excludes banana bread though, because yum.

These are smoothies I like. None have banana. I have put the ones you can add PB to at the top or they already have it in them! Also, try not to laugh at my lame recipe names. The recipes themselves are from many different websites, but I have not changed much besides the titles and removing unnecessary powders and seeds that I was either allergic to or they called them a super food (lolno).

I don't know any nutrition facts for these, but I found most of them from healthy recipe websites when I originally went looking a long time ago, if it counts. If you want a smoothie to be a bit more filling like a meal, adding old-fashioned rolled oats could help (not the instant kind). I know one recipe has it in it, but I assume it could be an addition to others. The ones with veggies are also approved from someone who hates mixing sweet and savory flavors, if that is any help at giving an idea as to how they are more sweet.

I also don't know what kind of blender you have. For instance, when I first started making smoothies the blender I had would not blend ice at all. Since my brother moved in he also came with an expensive blender, so I've been having fun with that. So, use your own discretion with these, lol.

Bee smooth.
1 beet - scrubbed, chopped
1 cup grapes
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp raspberries
1 tsp pomegranate powder (optional, really only adds color and a slightly more tangy flavor)
1 cup vanilla soy milk

Creamy Zucchiocolate.
1 zucchini - chopped
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup ice

Green PB cup.
2 handfuls kale
1 pear - chopped
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup ice

Chococado Smoothie.
1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
1 1/2 cups vanilla soy milk
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp peanut butter
3 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup, or to taste
2 tbsp semisweet chocolate chips, melted***
1 tbsp vanilla extract, or to taste
12 ice cubes
***Put melted chocolate in blender with the not cold ingredients first and blend. (VERY IMPORTANT POTATO. ICE WILL MAKE IT RE-SOLIDIFY IF NOT MIXED BEFOREHAND.)

Orange Creamsicle.
1 navel orange, peeled
¼ c plain or vanilla yogurt
2 Tbsp frozen orange juice concentrate
¼ tsp vanilla extract
4 ice cubes

Like, Berries.
1 c frozen unsweetened raspberries
¾ c chilled vanilla soy milk
¼ c frozen pitted unsweetened cherries or raspberries
1½ Tbsp honey
2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Pineapple, pls.
1 cup vanilla yogurt
6 ice cubes
1 cup pineapple chunks

Berry fucking fruity.
½ cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
½ cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
¾ cup un/sweetened pineapple juice
1 cup vanilla yogurt

Watermelon and Strawberry.
2 cups frozen strawberries
1 cup chopped watermelon
1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
2 tsp honey
Squeeze of lemon or lime juice

Blueberry and peach piesoothie.
1 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
1/2 cup unsweetened or vanilla soy milk
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen peach slices
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract

Creamy Apricarrot
5 oz carrots - chopped
1 apricot - pitted
1 orange - peeled
1 tbsp goji berries
1/4 cup cashews
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup ice

Broccomonster.
1 cup cucumber
1/2 cup broccoli
1 apple - chopped
1 lemon - juiced
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup ice

Green Pineapple.
2 handfuls kale
1/2 cup pineapple
1 apple - cored, chopped
1/2 cup fresh mint - stemmed
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup ice

I keep forgetting to reply to this.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I've been blending a lot of berries together and I like that, I also tried strawberries and mangoes and that came out good. I've added some oats, too and I like those.

I think your recipe names are awesome. I particularly like "berry fucking fruity." I do have some of the ingredients at home so I'm definitely going to try these and I have to get more stuff at the store but I'm excited to give it all a try.

I don't have a specific recipe to suggest as most of my favourites involve bananas, but have you tried playing around with different kinds of milks? I've found that oat milk or almond milk help add a fuller flavour to certain smoothies. It might be worth trying a few to see which ones work best in combination with which other ingredients.

Personally, I love banana chocoalte smoothies, but, fret not I have another one.

Chop up a mango. Blend that fella. Add milk and sugar to taste. blend it together. Pretty good smoothie. Bonus if you add chocolate. Thats something I like, but I get why a lot of people wont like it

I don't like bananas either. I will use avocado, frozen fruits and veggies (we use zucchini, cucumber, spinach), silken tofu (it actually is good) or sometimes oatmeal (you want to grind it first) and chia seeds are good as well. Depending on your tastes, I sometimes use canned pumpkin (and my brother loves it as well). If you use some protein powder, vanilla, berries and I use coconut water, you don't taste the pumpkin that much.
We also have froze soy milk/coconut water as well that we mix in.

I forgot to mention that you should definitely experiment with different kinds of milk. Since I copied and pasted it from my document they all say vanilla soy since that is my personal favorite. Also yes, I would recommend grinding any oats before hand like Lexi said. Though it's not horrible tasting if you can't, just adds a texture to it instead of being smooth.

I've used chia seeds before. I'd recommend either soaking them overnight or grinding them before using since I've found my blender doesn't quite blend them when whole. You can also add peanut butter or chocolate (any kind, I like Nutella personally since I don't have to melt it) to pretty much any recipe depending on your taste buds. Like the recipes I listed before I've occasionally added PB or chocolate to them.
