I'm Going to a Potluck, and I'm Bringing... - March 13th 2011, 11:32 PM

If you're from the United States--I don't know about other countries--you've probably been to a potluck at some point during your life. Have you ever found yourself pondering what to bring? It's an important decision. Being a college student, I love potlucks. However, potlucks are no fun when everyone brings chips and brownies.

The purpose of this thread is to share ideas on what you would bring to a potluck; feel free to share brownie recipes, but let's try to have a little variety. Let's spice up our potlucks.

I'm going to a potluck, and I'm bringing....

Taco Dip!

This delicious dish has been a hit at every potluck I've been to, plus it's quick, easy, and fairly cheap to make.

You can buy it in the store, but it's much better home-made. You'll read several taco dip recipes online, but my family's is a little different. And in my opinion, it's better.

Recipe

(1) package of sour cream
(1) package of cream cheese
(1) package of taco seasoning
Lettuce
Salsa
Shredded cheese
Nacho chips
  • Mix the sour cream and cream cheese together until smooth. Use a mixer for quick results.
  • Mix the taco seasoning in.
  • Spread the mix on a serving pan
  • Sprinkle the salsa, shredded cheese, lettuce and any other toppings (diced tomatoes, onions, ect) on top.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for a couple hours.
  • Serve with nacho chips at your potluck and watch it be devoured!
It's so easy that even I can make it.

Share your potluck ideas! :-)

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. . .

Basically, it's a dinner where people get together and bring all kinds of different food. It's fun cause you can get to try new things.

I've never really been to potlucks, but I'd love to take things like bakes, like pasta bake or something. I love to cook stuff like that so.. (:

I always bring dessert to potluck. I figured out that of all the potlucks that I been too, nobody brings dessert. So usually I bring cupcakes, or cake which I of course made from scratch. I'm not really the picnic/potluck person anyways though. :P

I've never been to one of these but they sound really fun

I'd probably take a crumble or something, it's about the only decent thing I can make

Haha. Every summer, my summer league swim team would have a team award pot luck dinner. Everyone brings fried chicken, pizza, or macaroni and cheese.
My family always brings shepherd's pie - basically a beef stew topped with mashed potatoes and cheese, and it's always a hit. It's simple, can be made in large amounts, and it's good for you.
I always make a dessert of some kind. My favorite is a cherry chocolate cheesecake. Basically, a regular cheesecake topped with a layer of canned cherries, topped with a layer of chocolate mousse. It's SO good.

I don't think I've been to one but if I get the concept correctly I would bring some nachos with guacamole you can never go wrong with that and some margaritas to drink.

Re: I'm Going to a Potluck, and I'm Bringing... - March 29th 2011, 12:45 AM

I would bring puppy chow!

=D It's amazing.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
9 cups Crispix cereal (any flavor)
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions:

1. Combine peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.

2. Microwave for one minute then stir to blend all ingredients thoroughly. Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Stir well.

3. Place the 9 cups of Crispix cereal in a very large bowl.

4. Pour the peanut butter-chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal gets a good covering.

5. Coat with powdered sugar, sprinkling evenly over the cereal and tossing as you sprinkle to cover each piece well.

It's sooooo goood. Lol xD

I almost always bring my chocolate chip cookies
Sometimes I bring cheese biscuit things. Ya know, like the ones at Red Lobster?
