I still eat meat, although, it is becoming less and less appealing every day.

I used to be veggie, but in the end, eating meat is what we're biologically designed to eat, as well as non-meat products, being a veggie because of the way they treat animals is a bit silly though, you can get free range meat and those animals have a much better welfare of life. Websites like meat.org (I assume) take the most extreme situations they can find and upload them. I would recommend watching Hugh's Chicken Run though, that all about trying to get everyone eating free range chicken and gives some information on indoor reared chickens.

Actually, animals kinda were put here to be killed and eaten, it keeps the ecosystem in check... And it's why certain animals are adapted to just eating meat...
And being vegetarian isn't healthier, being picky about what you eat is.

i really dont feel like arguing much right now, but actually animals arent very healthy for people. they may give you nutrients but you can get those from anything else too. also by eating meat, your chances for certain types of cancer are up to 20/30% more then a vegetarian/vegan. please do a little bit of research on it and you will see. animals werent put here to be killed and eaten either. they are here because they have an effect on the world that basically keeps us in balance. if i dont reply after this its cuz im tired as hell

Meat is very nutritional, being picky about what meat you eat can mean you avoid the unhealthy death meat which may slightly increase the chances of certain types of cancer (and isn't really solid evidence because most things these days increase your chances of getting cancer, even breathing, which is healthy. Cancer is something that everyone is bound to get if they live long enough, but this is a completely different topic).
And your 'not put here to be eaten' suggests one of two things, 1. Creationism or 2. Farmers.
Proof against 1: Evolution, animals have evolved to eat only meat, evidence for this would be looking at teeth, if you compared a cats teeth to a cows teether then you would notice a distinct difference, you would also notive a difference between them when compared to human teeth as well. If animals weren't meant to be eaten then there would be no predators left on the earth now, animals like lions and tigers would be extinct, or never would of come about and we'd have a massive pest problem due to things like rabbit populations increasing and then the rabbits eating all the crops causing a lot of animals to die. Yes, animals are all part of an ecosystem, but part of that system includes being eaten. But yes, the animals weren't even 'put here' they evolved in to them. You seem to be lacking a distinct lack of knowledge in the biological department.
And if you were referring to farmers, well, they kinda are put there to be killed and then eaten. That's the point of farming.

Plus, don't insinuate that I haven't done any research on the matter, or that I don't know what I'm on about, I think is obvious who has the more rounded knowledge on the matter.

Well I'm not going to be persuaded out of 'still' eating meat....I'm an omnivore and happy with it. (:

trust me, as somebody who cares a lot for animals and always tries to help them and learn more about them, i have done much more research on this. and just because they are bred to be eaten doesnt mean its ethical to kill them. they can feel pain. and calling me stupid isnt going to prove your point.

oh and actually i do believe in evolution. but animals eat animals, humans dont need to.

Well, I believe in animal rights too and I purposely avoid eating in places where it's known that they don't treat their animals well and also I don't wear fur because there's no need for it but eating meat I'm fine with, it's nature.

You say that animals weren't put here to be eaten well just turn on any nature documentary and you'll probably see a lion eating an antelope or something for dinner.

Humans ARE animals.

But eating meat does have health benefits and a lot of vegetarian diets lack protein which is necessary in the body.

If you want to be a vegetarian then that's up to you, I respect that and if you look on www.allrecipes.com they have some pretty good vegetarian recipes

ok a few last points before i go to sleep. animals eat animals because they need to. they cant go to the store and buy food to eat like we can. and actually, most vegetarians have HIGHER protein levels! thats because soy and beans are a popular food when you dont eat meat, and they have a ton of protein. i get much more protein now then i ever did eating meat.

and yes, i am totally obsessed with allrecipes.com xD

First off, I didn't call you stupid I said my education on the matter is more rounded than yours, bearing in mind I have a qualification in food and nutrition I have a knowledge of the benefits eating and not eating meat have, and also as a past vegetarian I have information form then.
Also, when did humans start to not count as animals? Why is it less ethical for a human to eat an animal than a killer whale? I mean, killer whales will play with seals by tossing them around before they eat them, but of course, this is ethical because they're not human?

Meat eaters can eat exactly the same as vegetarians, they have a broader choice, it's no 'You can eat THIS or THAT but not BOTH'...

the difference i consider when saying animals are different, is we can buy other foods. they cant. and im not saying thats ethical, but we are also much smarter then a killer whale -____-

I don't really see where being able to walk into a shop comes into the whole ethics thing, that food still has to come from some where, it doesn't just appear there.
And so what if were're more intelligent than a killer whale, if a stupid human went around push sheep around and then ate them, would they be excused because they were stupid? Or would it be alright because he doesn't know? Let's bear in mind he still has the ability to walk in to a shop and buy food.

I'm vegetarian, and perfectly happy with that. If you choose to eat meat, that's your decision, and I won't hold it against you.

Re: vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian, what are you? - March 15th 2011, 12:57 AM

Just a side note:

Most meat shops have laws/rules they need to follow when it comes to meat processing.
They are meant to do it in the most human way possible. And if they don't they get a red card.
I know that it is different in a lot of places.

Here is the thing: The videos/documentaries that you see are really really bad, But not ALL places are like that. In fact, (judging by what I heard from my ex, who worked in a meat shop) most places are humane. (though, I have no actual evidence of this, so don't bash me if I'm wrong) Seems like the media, or whoever makes these videos are trying to make a dramatic effect (normally the people who make these vids are the vegans/vegetarians) and are trying to convince you into one way, or the other.

Though, I do respect your decision for not eating meat. :]
It probably IS healthier to not eat meat. But there are nutrients in meat that you wouldn't be able to get in other foods.

All this talk about meat is making me huuuuuuungry, so yes I "still" eat it. It's delish! I get a lot of good proteins and nutrients from meat that I wouldn't get anywhere else. (I don't eat as well as I should, and I generally don't eat very much because apparently my stomach is itsy bitsy. I wish it were not the case, but there you go.)

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about vegetarians who are doing it for animal rights. Technically, if that's the case, they should be vegans; it's not like animals are treated wonderfully just because they don't get killed (for food, at least) in the end.

Furthermore, those who wish to stand up for animal rights should also avoid using anything that has animal byproducts and additionally anything that has been produced with the aid of animal testing. This would include any product that uses the knowledge gleaned from animal testing; to me, that's like saying "Oh, I'm not going to kill it, but you go right ahead and tell me how it goes." It's still advocacy, and if one feels strongly enough about animal rights to not eat meat, then one probably ought to avoid advocating animal testing.

I understand there are people who do feel strongly about animal rights and do try very hard to abstain from using animals, their byproducts, and research gleaned from testing. However, I cannot help but think that many people who claim to be vegetarians for animal rights reasons have not looked at the matter fully. The way I see it, if you're going to do it, you shouldn't do it halfway.

All this said, know that I don't really go touting this view everywhere; I don't really care if others are vegetarians or what their reasons are, because it's none of my business. The only time I call people out on it or really mind is if I feel I'm being personally attacked. (aka: "Oh my god, how can you be so CRUEL as to EAT MEAT? Don't you KNOW what they DO to those poor animals? You're a BAD PERSON and you should FEEL GUILTY.") Otherwise, it's all cool.

[Afternote: I was careful to use impersonal pronouns in this post for a reason; I'm not deliberately attacking anyone or trying to knock down straw men here.]

I'm still a meat eater. I've considered becoming vegetarian, but I don't know if I will or not.

I used to be a vegetarian, but I had to start eating meat again because I wasn't getting enough protein and I started losing a considerable amount of where to where someone commented on it.

There are certain meats that are unhealthy such as red meats. However, there healthy meats such as chicken, turkey, salmon, etc.

I eat chicken and fish. I tried being vegan for awhile but I'm so picky it didn't work

I still eat meat, just not much of it because honestly I don't really like the taste of most meats - it has nothing to do with how the animals are treated.

Last year I went vegan for awhile (i'm allergic to dairy so the crossover from vegetarian wasn't tough) but too many foods contain meat that I had to quit.

I wish I could be a fruitatarian, because I could easily live off fruit - but I am not sure that is entirely healthy!!! Soi will just stick to veggie!!! I am vegetarian because I dont actually like eating meat, a bit of chicken or ham is fine but definitely NO red meat!!! Yuck!

I eat meat but only free range and certain types. I loooove salmon! However there are lots of animals that I will not eat. Why? It's complicated. There's a huge list of animals that I will not eat but some of the ones I will NOT eat are any equines, felines, canines, moose, bear(yes people eat bears), whale, dolphin, etc.

Re: vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian, what are you? - March 24th 2011, 04:27 AM

I am an ex vegetarian. I was almost vegan. However, I started getting digestive problems, and I had an appendix attack.. I was told by my chiropractor to read a book called "The Paleo Diet". It explains that humans are genetically not programmed to eat legumes like soy, grains, or milk. Now I eat mostly according to this. I do have some rice, but soon that's gonna go. I'll just have to learn to make sushi with something other than rice.

Of course it's possible for some people to be healthy on a vegan diet, but a diet including meat (and fish and chicken), that doesn't have grains, legumes, or milk is actually healthier (from an anthropological viewpoint). I could provide you with some more evidence, but I don't want to start an argument.

All I'm gonna say is that I currently feel amazing, and my health is starting to take a turn for the better. My depression is gone, my digestion is improving, and my terrible skin is starting to become not so terrible.

Oh, one more thing- if you eat meat that is sourced from a good place, it is sustainable, and it's actually (in my opinion) nicer to the animals than a vegan diet. If you want to understand what I mean, or ask me any questions coming from a former vegetarian, then by all means send me a PM or VM.
