5 a Day :) - April 7th 2011, 04:32 PM

Wasn't completely sure whether to stick this here or in my other forum but I'm going to go with here for now

Basically, I noticed quite a few have been posting and wanting to lose weight healthily and it's important to eat right in order to do that, yeah?

We all know we should be getting out 5 a day but I know for me, I find it hard sometimes, I don't always feel like having a plate of vegetables for dinner

So I thought that we could share recipes and ideas for yummy ways to get 5 a day

"Five a day" is a term for five portions of fruit and veg a day Nutritionists say that's the number people should eat per day

Here's a video I found not too long ago:

You don't have to have a ridiculous amount of fruit and veg on your plate for every meal. A good cheat is drinking a fruit smoothie

I love fruit smoothies they are so yummy! I try and add vegatables to what I am making when I am cooking something, which hopefully adds a bit more to my 5 a day!

One of my favorite ways to work veggies into my diet is to mixed some steamed veggies into my pasta. Another is just cutting up a banana on top of my breakfast cereal.

I'm pretty good when it comes to getting my five a day because my mum uses vegetables a lot in her cooking and I'm absolutely fruit bonkers. I usually chop up fruit and put it on the top of porridge for a healthy breakfast.

I make fresh fruit salad in the morning and have some throughout the day (:

Apple + plum + grapes + peach + tangerine + grapefruit (+ whatever else I can find!)
- I add 1/2 of the grapefruit sliced up, the other 1/2 is juiced & mixed with the salad. Grapefruit juice acts as an anti-browning agent, so the apple slices don't change colour!

Frozen banana slices are also delicious and a healthy snack (:

I add veggies into whatever I'm cooking for dinner. Tonight I had sausage casserole and it had onions, celery, carrots, peas, leeks and potatoes in it. I basically tend to go for one-pot meals that I can chuck extra veg into so I don't have to use too many pots and pans

You could actually get 2 of your 5 a day in a smoothie. A whole banana and good few strawberries
