Vegan day? - May 14th 2011, 11:14 AM

I was wondering if you guys would help me out a little?

What I hope to achieve, because I can't find any actual legit world wide day, where people all across the world will try to be Vegan for a day. As in eating and buying vegan products, and avoiding non vegan products to help raise awareness about the cruelty to animals, and destruction of the environment/ecosystems around the world.

If this day was to be pushed and organised, I was wondering how many of you would partake? Or are even considering it? I would love to here from you all about your thoughts and opinions about this

Please keep in mind I am in no way trying to force this lifestyle on to anyone nor am I trying to guilt or pressure this onto anyone, I am simply trying to raise awareness.

But on this point I would like to say that being vegan isn't that difficult a task, and the food options really aren't that hard to get, as long as you steer away from take away food shops etc. Not only is it relatively easy, the majority of vegan foods taste no different to normal foods. For example I loved my chai latte's before going vegan. I now have soy chai latte's and they taste even better than "normal"

So basically, would you guys mind sparing a minute to leave me a comment or PM about your thoughts or opinions, and whether or not you would take part in this organised day? If not, would you mind sharing why?

Thank you so much guys for just getting through all this, and if you comment or PM me, thank you even more! Have a truly wonderful day guys!
Peace <3

I respect your decision to be vegan but I'm sorry to say I wouldn't join in with it. In my opinion it's natural to eat meat and it is sad that animal cruelty occurs but I do try and avoid places that partake in animal cruelty, like KFC for example.

Also, I really wouldn't want to give up any foods that I'm accustomed to eating. I know there are vegan alternatives but I really like the foods I eat now AND I like things like egg

Hey, as a Vegan myself, of course I'd partake!

But, I also know if there was a day where everyone went Vegan, my mom would partake, my brother would [probably] partake, my boyfriend would definitely partake (and possibly cook!), so I do know of a few who'd participate, as well as having Vegan friends, and friends open to trying Vegan food.

I wouldn't partake, it sounds like it would just be a silly day, I think the vegan lifestyle is just silly. A day to raise awareness when the activity isn't actually that noticeable? I mean, I wouldn't expect to hear 'Oh my, your sandwich looks so much more veganny today, you've made me realise all the trauma animals have to go through and now I won't eat meat again' x.x

'And in the garden, lust began
The animal instinct, the wanton man
She fed him with a hunger, an appetite
And fillin' with emotion he took a bite'

its realise if youre in the uk...

and no, i wouldnt take part. food can be hard enough as it is, i used to be on a gluten free diet, and i couldnt eat most things, not just stuff that had wheat etc in, but stuff that might have been contaminated with gluten. i wouldnt wish something like this on anyone. and vegan stuff seems very bland. so yeah, i personally wouldn't take part. i do wish that animals had better living conditions though...

Just a reminder to discuss the issue rather than call people out on grammar/spelling mistakes.

I think it's quite an interesting idea. I try and cook veggie/vegan meals as often as I can anyway so I don't think I would mind for a day ^^ and when it comes to buying vegan products even my washing up liquid is vegan friendly, so I wouldn't mind that either.

I probably wouldn't join in. I could easily and happily eat Vegan for a day. But I'd do it because I love Vegies and felt like eating that way, not because of animal cruelty or anything.

Thank you so much for the feed back guys
If anyone who IS interested would like to PM me and share any ideas, that would be fantastic!
I respect your opinions in saying no, but please keep polite and respectful, you have no idea why people choose to do certain things, and mostly you come off as ignorant and rude.
Like I said, I do not want to try and force this lifestyle onto anyone, but I would like to see people for a mere 24 hours just to TRY the vegan lifestyle, it really isn't that hard. And I have had the most wonderful meals, some of them taste even better than "normal" foods.
If you are even SOMEWHAT interested or curious about this PLEASE PM me, I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have on this

Re: Vegan day? - May 18th 2011, 05:47 PM

Millarw12, there are many good Vegan recipes. If you make the right meals, and a good dessert, non-vegans participating won't really feel a need to eat anything non-vegan that day.

For example, a good menu could be something like:

Breakfast: Vegan French Toast with orange juice.

Lunch: Vegan Pizza [Basically, pizza dough is already Vegan friendly, and a fair few pre-made pizza crusts are too. I suggest using Daiya Vegan Cheese, since it melts well and tastes great], topped with veggies (and maybe mock meats, like veggie pepperoni, which is yummy actually).

Dinner: Whatever you like, within your level of cooking expertise. The link is to The PPK *Post Pun Kitchen*, which has great Vegan recipes for every level, from BASIC to INTERMEDIATE. I made a delicious, easy Vegan Alfredo sauce based on a recipe from the site before.

It's easy enough to go Vegan, at least for one day. Plus, one thing most people don't realize is that A LOT of products are "Accidentally Vegan" (meaning they weren't intended to be, but just didn't need any animal products in the making), like a fair few cereals (Reese's Puffs, mmm!), ramen noodles (at least, all the ones I've seen here), various salad dressings (vinaigrettes, and some others), and many other delicious items. In fact, PETA has a list of "Accidentally Vegan Items", as well as a list for kids*, which includes kiddie cereals and candy.

*Note: You'll see "Smarties" on there. It's not the chocolate, for you UK and Canada folks. Smarties in the US.

Re: Vegan day? - May 19th 2011, 08:16 AM

I would go vegan for a day, but not to raise awareness about animal cruelty, since most of the animal products I eat are high welfare anyway. Also, as animal cruelty is not limited to the food industry, I would personally feel as though the other animals being treated badly weren't being spoken for.
on a side not: that vegan french toast looks lush thirteen, I might try it later.
