Re: Healthy snacks - August 12th 2011, 10:21 PM

Grapes! Grapes are yummy

Fruit salad is nice too. Smoothies are effectively the same thing, but mushed up.

There's also cereal bars and stuff like that, but they've got a fairly high sugar content, whereas fruit is natural sugar so it's healthier.

It's a bit more expensive than packaged/processed food, but fruit is the way to go.

Maybe it's not my weekend but it's gonna be my year.

It's perfectly fine to be a happy individual.

Take off at the speed of sound...

Re: Healthy snacks - August 12th 2011, 10:26 PM

Hmmm, let me have a think, what do I like....?

* Sugarfree jelly
* Any kind of fruit (I have baked apple sometimes, it's so yummy, de core the apple stuff with raisons, dribble honey on the top and pop it in the mircowave for 3 - 5 mins depending how mushy you like it )
* Raw veg like carrots and cucumber with dip
* Natural yoghurt with honey
* Salt and vinegar rice cakes
* Saltarners and peanuts mixed together
* Breadsticks
* Sorbet

Hope this helps a bit

-celery or apple slices with peanut butter
-carrots with dip, although sometimes they're sweet enough not to need dip
-popcorn-no real nutritional value, but it's low cal
-freeze low calorie juice to make your own popsicles
-strawberries are always yummy
-yogurt with fruit
-cottage cheese with fruit

Re: Healthy snacks - August 12th 2011, 10:51 PM

Actually, fruits are in controversy as "healthy" now. The natural sugars in them are considered fattening, to some doctors (such as mine). But, I would suggest that over many other foods :P

Egg salad - use fat-free or unsweetened mayonnaise
Breads without corn syrup
Rice
Veggies - cooked/broiled is very healthy and make for great snacks!

http://www.allergyfreeandsugarfreesn...ee-snacks.html Here are some ideas for ones you can make yourself Such as gummi bears that aren't bad for you!

Really, anything with extremely low amount of sugar, or none at all, can be "healthy" for you. And by the way..."SNACK" is a very broad word!

Oh, and if you decide to go with fruit stuff - which is okay as long as it's in moderation - and you like yogurt. Do NOT get the yogurt with fruit on the bottom. These are almost always packed full of sugar content. Go with the ones with blended yogurt and fruit.

Hope this helps!

Re: Healthy snacks - August 13th 2011, 04:16 AM

Don't laugh at me, but I LOVE having cereal as a snack... I don't eat it for breakfast, but I do as a midnight snack! ^_^
-English muffin with a little butter and apple butter
-Pretzel sticks (the honey wheat ones are my favorite)
-Just about any kind of fruit (since it's summer... melon, peaches, strawberries, grapes)
-Dill pickle spears
-Ice cream bars! (Specifically creamsicles and fudgesicles... One bar can better control the calories than having to scoop it)
-Chips - the baked ones are pretty healthy, or sweet potato chips
-Raw veggies (yellow bell pepper strips, tomato slices, cucumber slices, or celery sticks to name a few)
-Popcorn
-Yogurt (my favorite is Yoplait Light)
-Crackers with peanut butter or cheese spread
-Apples with peanut butter
-Trail mix (I found one by Planters called Sweet & Nutty - has a variety of nuts, some raisins and craisins, and some chocolate pieces)
-Pistachios, lightly salted
-Granola bars - I always have a couple in my purse in case I have a long day out... my recent favorite has berries and pretzels, but I'm okay with the typical Quaker chocolate variety too

The Special K bars, those are the best thing you can eat.
There is strawberry and chocolate. I usually take the chocolate one.

I buy these big packs from the supermarket that are like mixed nuts and dried fruit and other yummy healthy stuff. I buy one pack a week and seperate it into 5 zip lock bags. I take one with me to uni everyday...it's good because it's something you can snack on throughout the day, so you don't get hungry and start craving junk food :P

Exactly what I was going to say. The apples have vitamins and are sweet, and the peanut butter is nice and thick and has tons of protein.

I personally love eating fruit, so apples with peanut butter, grapes with cheddar cheese (delicious! mmm), yogurt with fruit, and smoothies are good. Also, breakfast parfaits are really good - layers of yogurt, granola, and fruit.

The Nature Valley granola bars are really good, too.

Squares. They are like these healthy kinda ceral bar things. The plain one tastes of marshmellows. You can get healthy chocolate flavors too.

Peppers dipped in cream cheese is good too.
