I Still Feel Like It's Not Real - March 19th 2013, 10:41 PM

My grandfather passed away from cancer in December. I still don't really get it. It doesn't feel real. I went to the wake and saw him, it was the scariest thing I've ever done. I had seen him really really sick in the hospital and that didn't bother me as much. I keep having flashbacks and nightmares about it every once and a while. But it still doesn't feel like it happened. I keep thinking that when I go to my grandmother's house he'll be sitting in his chair... but he's not.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I have been in that same position. Sometimes, when we are younger, deaths in the family are alittle bit easier than when we are older. Why? Because we usually (but not in all cases) don't have a great relationship with the one who passed (due to our age), we usually don't fully process the whole 'death' thing, and we usually have a different way of coping. Now, this isn't always the case, and sometimes it's actually harder for us to move past a death at a young age. My point is, it may not seem real because of how young you are. When my great grandmother died, I knew she died, I saw her face, I grabbed her hand in the casket, but I never really processed it. I never really thought it was real. I still don't. Sometimes that happens. However, of course we still are upset, confused, and miss that person. I still miss my great grandmother.

So, I know how you feel, and I'm always here if you need to talk/vent.

Best wishes,
Chris

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...

I don't have any experience with what you're going through, but if you ever need someone to talk to/rant to I'm here.

Sometimes things like this don't seem real because it's something that you're not used to. Your brain doesn't really know how to process it, and you're so used to him being there that you can't believe he won't be.
