I Lost My Dear Pet - April 2nd 2015, 05:57 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of death or grieving, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

It wasn't that long ago that I had gotten him. I named him Len, after the Vocaloid, because he was an orange and white kitten.
There was something about him the day I met him. There was just this connection I had with him... like I was meant to be his owner.
Sadly, I could only see him for a few hours a day because he was still young and needed to be with his mom.

I got a message from the original owner, the person he was staying with, April 1st at 10:30. I didn't believe the message because it was April fools but I was so doubtful the owner came over to show me. To show me she was serious. She showed me the buried body.

I. I know he just died a day ago but still. He meant a lot to me. The other pets I lost I was too young to grieve over with when the died, even though I loved them the same.

RIP Len.

Hi there Derek,
I'm sorry for you loss Just let yourself grieve and remember the good times you had when you were able to see him. It's natural of you to be upset about his death, even if you knew him for a short amount of time.
I'm here if you would like to talk.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I love my cats dearly and I don't ever want to lose them so I can't imagine what you're going through right now. Animals are amazing companions and having a connection like you did with your kitten is a great feeling. Even though Len is no longer with you, you enhanced his short life while you were able to see him and I am sure he appreciated that. I bet you helped him as much as he helped you. Give yourself time to feel everything that you're feeling, and be sure to express your feelings as well. Reach out to someone if you need to, and take care of yourself.

Hey Derek.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. Honestly, it doesn't matter how long you knew an animal for - it's still going to hurt when they pass away. It doesn't take long to form a connection, and that's as wonderful as it is painful. This must be especially difficult for you because you haven't really gone through the grieving process for a pet before. The thing you need to remember is that what you're feeling is natural, and it's totally okay to express those feelings. Don't worry about it seeming 'silly' or 'unnecessary' - you cared about Len and you have every right to be saddened by his passing.

For now, take as much time as you need to grieve properly, and don't let anyone convince you that he was 'just a cat' or that it's not 'worth it'. This is your life, and your feelings, and nobody can tell you how to grieve.

Take care, okay?

Hey Derek,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I understand that it is difficult to lose a pet. My family lost a kitten last year and it was tough. Take as much time as you need to recover from your loss. Everyone grieves differently and it's important to let yourself heal from this.

Take care,
Kitty.
