It Bothers me when.... - September 30th 2009, 02:33 PM

Hey guys.

I know everyone has thier own way of grieving and stuff like that, but it really bothers me when people such as my brother put "RIP" their facebook status and stuff like that. It bothers me because RIP seems like such a thing to put on gravestones of like...creepy people in movies and stuff. It reminds me of Ghosts and terror and halloween-y stuff. Like, I just think it sounds mean...I don't know why. I mean absolutly no offense to anyone on the site who uses it, but personally I just would never use it for my Baba because it seems like a diss or something.

I kind of agree with you. I think it would feel more respectful toward the person if they wrote out Rest In Peace.

I've never really thought of it that way to be honest, I've always seen it as a sign of respect. I think that if your brother wants to do that as a sign of respect then you should respect that. People do different things to grieve and show their respect for the loss of a loved one and I think that's okay.
Try to think of what the abbreviation actually stands for rather than the stereotypical horror movie gravestones.

JennJenn I totally agree, I think the whole 'RIP' looks nasty, I know the meaning is nice like 'Rest in Peace' but just the word RIP, it doesn't look very nice, i've always had this problem. xx

I don't like the word RIP either. It just doesn't seem like a nice word. But it is up to people what they say and everyone deals with loss in a different way.

RIP does sound a little harsh... I never really thought about it like that but I've not ever personally used it I don't think at least...

Wow, I never actually saw it that way.
But now that I get the gist of what you're saying here, I sort of agree.
Then again, I rarely use it myself. "Rest in Peace" just tends to be the proper way for me to express my feelings for someone who's passed on.

And the air is thin and it blows through your skin,
and you feel like something is about to begin.
But you don't know what and you don't know when,
so you tear at your hair and you scratch at your skin

I agree with this. There are way better ways to say it.

Rest in Peace
In Loving Memory
Never Forgotten
Always Remembered
Always in my heart

There is always hope. PM me anytime.

I usually chalk it up with "get back here, I'm not done loving you"
But that's because I tend to be a very sad person when I lose someone. Forget letting go, get back here.

Im with you too! Some people graffitied it in HUGE letters near a place where someone near me was killed... It just seemed disrespectful in a way...

It was cleaned off...
