Work colleague passed away on saturday - February 22nd 2010, 10:35 PM

I'm 20 and i've been working in the same place since i left school 4 years ago. During that time, i've found the people i work with are all like one big family, at least, that's how i feel. I care very much about everyone and try to get along with everyone.

Recently, one colleague was off for a period of about 10 months and then diagnosed with kidney failure. He was making a good recovery and came back to work recently. During the time back, i was speaking to him alot and when he went out for lunch he'd often bring back cakes for the office and of course, i'd get mine too and he never asked for anything in return.

Unfortunately, on saturday i heard he had passed away as a result of a stroke. It was so unexpected and i cannot seem to stop crying. I can't believe it. I've never had someone die who i was quite close to and i know it's probably shock, but i can't believe i'll never see him again. I keep expecting him to walk through the door of the office, but i know he wont come.

I keep telling myself that; at least his last day was really good fun, we had a laugh in the office.

and also, i'm glad i got to know him and meet him in this life. It'd be even worse if i never got the chance.

I am hoping to go to pay my last respects at the funeral. I really wish he would have been ok. I still can't believe it.

if you've read this, thankyou for taking the time, i know it wont mean much to you, i just wanted to put this somewhere.

Hey there,

I'm so sorry about your loss. Losing someone at any age is hard. Where I work we have 11 employee's so I understand when you talk about the big family. Since this is your first person that you have lost thats close to you, it will be hard.

Just remember he will always be there with you. He will be watching over you, and he doesn't want to see you dwell on what has happened. He would probably want you to move on and just remember the good past. He is in a better place now, where he is no longer in pain.

I hope you feel better soon, and I highly recommend going to the funeral, because if you don't you may feel worse about it as you couldn't have closure. Maybe you and your work could have like a candlelight vigil or something? I did that for my best friend, it made me feel better.

PM me if you need to talk at all
Keep strong
