So it didn't really cross my mind all that much, since I was with my girlfriend. But on January 1st 2006, my best friend, who was like my sister, was killed.. and everyone says it gets easier as the years go by, but really.. its getting harder.. I don't know how to 'get over it'
I miss you Nikki <3 And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong. Til the day my life is through, this I promise you.121109 |

I am very sorry for your loss and understand completely what you are saying. I believe we all grieve differently and everyone's experience with it is different. I also believe one never gets over the loss of someone dear and close...life carries on but doesn't mean we forget.
You are allowed to have your good days and your bad days-no matter how much time passes by. I try to remind myself that they wouldn't want to see me upset as it would hurt them terribly to know how much pain I was in-and they would want me to be happy. I know where my loved ones are and it is in a place of paradise and one day, we will see each other again...until then, I carry their memories in my heart and instead of focusing on my pain, I focus on the good times and cherish them. I can't tell you what will work for you...but what works for me is closing my eyes and focusing on my heart...and as weird as this may sound...I talk to them silently...this helps me feel less pain... you can try it...and see if it works for you too!

Hey Brittany
It really annoys me when people say that it gets easier with time because really, time doesn't take anything away and it doesn't really make anything better. You still have your pain and you still have that emptiness. That doesn't mean that things wont ever get easier though, I just think that time isn't everything. But the support, love and understanding from those you care about and who care about you are such powerful things when you're grieving. I don't know whether it's possible to 'get over a death' but perhaps you could look at it as 'getting through' it instead? Like I said, what's happened isn't going to change but you still have your life, your memories and Nikki still and always will have that place in your heart which no one and nothing can take away. Here if you ever want/need to talk, take care <3 I even heard your mamma wanted some of this...
