Missing my dog - July 2nd 2011, 07:45 PM

We had to put my dog down Tuesday. She was 13 and a half and really sick. It's really hard cause we got her when I was 5, that's pretty much my whole life. All those years, she was the only constant. Through fights with friends, going through a few boyfriends, family fighting, learning to ride a bike then getting my first car. Everything around me changing, she was always there. I remember the very first time I saw her, and of course I remember the very last time.
When my mom and I were saying our final goodbye to her, I gave her some kisses and a hug. Then I put my cheek by her face, and despite the fact she wasn't eating (not even fresh, real chicken breast) or drinking, was weak with an infection and other medical conditions and possibly had a stroke earlier that day, she licked my cheek a few times and I involuntarily smiled. That's when my mom started crying. Of course I had already been crying for an hour, my mom just isn't a crier. Even though it was such a hard time, and she was way sicker that day then I had ever seen her, she could still make me smile.
It doesn't help that I've been depressed lately. One thing that makes it hard is breaking habits, arriving home and she's not there, walking in the kitchen and not having to check on her, the empty space where her food dish and kennel have been all those years.
I know we gave her a good life and all, I just don't know how to live without her.

How's your life? It's been a while
God, it's good to see you smile
