We got our family dog put down on Tuesday. She was 15, so she grew up with me. This is going to be a bit long, but I just need to let it all out right now.
A few months before she got put down she was starting to get sick. Her hips would go out, but she was able to get up, she would start coughing a lot, and had, as my mom called it, "Doggy Dementia." She would start wondering out in the road when we let her out, so we had to go out with her and she also forgot people that she really loved. This weekend it got pretty bad. We took her camping with us because she always loved it up north, but she didn't want to go outside to go potty and when we tried taking her over to our neighbors she wouldn't stop barking at them. My mom wasn't there at first, but then she came up to pick me and my brother up on Monday to take us to our aunt's house. I had just finished packing my stuff up in the car and I went in the trailer and my mom was crying. She said Cotton had fallen down and couldn't get back up by herself this time. Then she said that my dad was going to get her put down on Tuesday because she was with us at our aunt's house and also couldn't bear to do it herself On Tuesday, my dad called my mom while I was showering and said that he took Cotton to the vet and she died peacefully there. It took awhile for it all to sink in, but the car ride home it really hit and I couldn't really stop crying. When we got home we gathered some of her favorite things to get cremated with her, which was really emotional for everyone. Even though I knew this would be coming eventually, it's still really tough. It's hard thinking that she isn't here growing with me anymore. There have been times where I completely forget about it and wonder where she is for a second and then realize that I won't find her this time.

Aww sweetie I'm so sorry. I know how hard losing a beloved pet is. All i can say is you can find comfort is that she had a full and happy life with people who truly loved and cared for her. You will always have the memories of all the happy times, years from now you will think of her and smile. Stay strong <3

Check out Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. Its a really cute book and might bring you some comfort and closure. Especially if you are religious, and even if you aren't. Feel better sweetie <3

Hey
I have a doggie too. She's 9, and that's pretty old for a lab. I've seen a couple of friends' dogs die, and it hurts. i start crying each time i think that my baby, my puppy , is not going to be there with me at some point. I cry silently. i don't let anyone know. and i'm crying right now. i can understand how you're feeling. Cotton is like your baby right? your own. yours to feed, love and take care of. yours to hug. yours to cry and sleep on. i love my dog as much as you love yours. just stick with that love. i guess it'll help if you bawl like a baby. hugging a pillow isn't the same, but i think it'll be very helpful. from the many books i've read, i think that it will be best if you imagine your doggie in a happy place...possible grunting contendedly after a good meal. know that your dog had the best life with you ever. the very best. believe that it is happy, and that it loves you the most in the whole world, just how he means the world to you. feel better okay? love <3 |

Thanks everyone.
Sarah, I'll have to check out that book. EnriqueFan, she was definitely like my baby, although I couldn't really sleep on her as she was pretty small (Not like, Yorkie small, but still small.). xD Whenever I get upset now I'll try to picture her somewhere chasing around chipmunks or licking her dinner plate clean. =) ![]() People help the people, And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it. |
