Question Why are so feiw people affected? - July 20th 2011, 11:42 PM

Quite an unusal question for the title of this Im sure you are thinking, just read on and all will be revealed..

In the news this week for my local area is a story of three people have been killed after some sailine was infected (i think that's correct) and another is seriously ill. I visitied the hospital where this happend yesterd and the current security there is REALLY strict now.

Anyway, the fact that 'three people have lost theri lives' got me thinking. How many people (about) are affected by each (any) death? How many peopld die each day? (I belive it's a crazy statistic such as 1 person every 5 seccons worldwide) so therfore why are so feiw people Greaving?

Just after my grandmodther died when I was in school I felt mainly alone, like no-one elce knew what was going on. I had mum to deal with though so I never (and still havent) had a chance to come to tearms with the death. However an e-mail was sent to all my teachers telling them what had happend and basicly asking them to be understanding. Such as allow me to step otside a muinet in a lesson if I get upset. (wich benifited me so much)
So therfore Im mainly wondering why has no-one elce ever had this?
I figured that it's not because they do not know anyone who has died (since people die all the time) but more acuratly why does it feel liek you are alone when you greave?
Surlly they must be lot's and lot's of other people who are greaving all at the same time, why do they not get together?

Anyway, sorry this got a bit waffely but any thoughts on this I would love to hear them

Honestly, I think if everyone grieved for every single death that ever happened then no one would do anything but grieve for the rest of their life.

Also, and this is just my opinion, I think if everyone grieving got together then they may not be able to get over it. If you're constantly surrounded by people who are grieving then it would make it harder for them to get away from it and move on with their lives.

Also, I think you feel alone when grieving since you have an individual bond with that person. No one else has a bond like it since it's something you share with them.

I hope this helped.

Hey there,

I guess I get what you're saying here. If I'm honest it's something I've never really thought about but now that you mention it, it's a good point. I guess though, it's because no-one has the exact same connection with a person that you do. When you know someone, you know them in a unique way to everyone else. I mean, say you had a group of friends. You were all really close and all got along. One day someone died from that group, you would of course grieve as a group (as you would do in a family situation) but you'll always have the private jokes and individual memories that will make you miss them on your own aswell, so because of that you sort of detach yourself from everyone else and feel like you're alone.

I mean, I could be totally wrong here, but to me that seems logical.
Hope this helped!
Hollie.

Well for some people it depends on who died, I personally take death WAY too hard, but sometimes not as hard if I did not know the person as well. For example, there is a LOT of death on the news, but if you do not have a personal bond/relationship with that person or people you are less likely to grieve because you were not always directly affected.
