Question Anyone know what this book is called? - September 16th 2015, 09:03 PM

I have a younger cousin who asked me if I have any book recommendations and I remembered this one book that I read when I was 10-ish, but I can't remember what it was called. It was a novel about a snake (I'm pretty sure that it was a boa, but I can't remember) who used to live in the wild but was caught by a young boy and became his pet. Said boy gives the snake frozen mice to eat, but the snake refuses to eat them. Then the boy gives the snake a live mouse, and the snake "adopts" the mouse as his own pet. Two specific scenes that I remember: the boy takes the snake to school at some sort of "bring-your-pet" day or something, and a girl gets mad at him for bringing in two pets (i.e. the snake and the mouse) and the boy claims that the mouse is just the snake's food. There was another scene where the boy was eating cereal with milk, and the snake refers to the milk as "mammal juice". Does anyone know what this might be?

Sorry, I don't know the name of this exact book, but it sounds a little like a Carl Hiaasen book (Hoot, Flush, Chomp). Those are mostly books about kids and families and animals, so those would be good to recommend if you can't figure out the one you're looking for
