Battle Royale - April 17th 2012, 09:56 AM

Okay,

Not going to lie. I ended up on the Hunger Games bandwagon

Somehow I ended up talking to Cabron about it, and she suggested reading Battle Royale, which is kind of like the precursor and original before Hunger Games, so while Hunger Games has been in the post to me I tracked down a copy of Battle Royale and give it a shot..

First of all, by TH standards, it's triggering. The movie should be on my doorstep in a few days, but I'm really not sure what to expect. The book had no shortage of some fucking sadistic killing, rape and all other sorts of cruel shit. I'm not exactly the most sensitive person around, but one or two of the scenes had me squirming a bit.

Other than that, it's a bloody good read. It dragged on a bit in the middle because there were a good forty people who needed to be killed, but the ending was pretty badass. The use of Japanese names took a bit of getting used to though. If any of you are gun guys, you have to suspend reality. Some of the teenagers are remarkably good shots with full auto SMG's

All in all, I'd suggest it if you're sixteen years or older. I'm not a fan of hideously violent shit ending up in the hands of anybody younger than that, and while the story has some good themes behind it, there is still no shortage of graphic violence.

It's fantastic. A bunch of friends of mine got reallllly into it when we were 13, read the book, watched the movie, read the manga... eh, we were probably a bit young to get so gung ho over it, but yeah, I'd definitely second or third the recommendation.

I read this a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. My only problem was how it just kinda... ended. There wasn't much of a resolution, but it was great to read. Even though I loved the book, no way in hell would I watch the movie.

I have the movie on my computer, but have never had a chance to watch it. Didn't realize it was based on a book. Might have to track the book down first. Heard great things about the movie though.
