I've put this on every book thread but The Book Thief - Markus Zusak - it's really good and it's set during the time of the Holocaust
and Tell No one - Harlan Corben is good too - it's a crime-fiction and Darkly dreaming dexter - Jeff Lindsay - it's the book of the first series of Dexter

Night by Elie Wiesel is good.
They Cage The Animals At Night Flowers For Algernon A Child Called It The Giver Those are all good books that I liked. Geek? Nerd? More like intellectual badass. ![]() "You ran through Africa, and Asia, and Indonesia.. And now I've found you, and I love you. I want to know your name." |

Winds of War by Herman Wouk- It's some pretty deep stuff, but it's a fascinating look at one family's journey through WWII. The dad is the United States Navy Commander sent to Hitler's Berlin in the spring of 1939 as a naval attaché to the then-neutral American embassy. It also has a love story running throughout. His son works in Italy as an assistant to an art historian and ends up falling for the historian's jewish niece. It's really intense, and it provides a really accurate and true look to the complexities of war.
Like Amy said, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is the most amazing book i've ever read. It'll have you in tears by the end. For crime fiction, I'd try anything by Dan Brown or David Baldacci. Specifically: Angels and Demons- Dan Brown (AMAZING.) Digital Fortress- Dan Brown Deception Point- Dan Brown The Hour Game- David Baldacci Split Second- David Baldacci The Camel Club- David Baldacci Also, Harlan Coben is great for a thriller. His books Gone For Good and Tell No One are really good. You gotta spend some time love You gotta spend some time with me And I know that you'll find love I will possess your heart |

Hm, one of my personal favorite fantasy series is The Black Jewel Trilogy by Anne Bishop, they're amazing.
Crime-fiction: I like Tess Gerritsen and her books The Sinner, The Surgeon, The Apprentice. And for the war ones, I agree with xHolyValorx on "Night". It was really vivid and even though I read it last year, I still sometimes think about it. Yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers
But everything that lives is born to die And so I say to you that nothing really matters And all you do is stand and cry. Music is life. Start living. |

Atonement - Ian McEwan.
The book is about a million times better than the film, and it's sort of set in WW2. There was also a book I read and I can't remember what it's called GRR. It's set in World War Two and this girl's boyfriend is called up to fight and not long after that she leaves home to become a nurse and she gets sent to France and it's written as a diary half hers half his. Terrier by Tamora Pierce is a good fantasy one.As is Trickster's Choice, and Lady Knight
She whispered to her own reflection "I will be strong."
"I am not what has happened to me.I am what I have chosen to become."- Carl Jung "If ye harm none, do as ye wish." Sometimes things just happen. Smile through the tears. Avatar Editor, Eating Disorders, Current Events Mod, and Operations and Procedures Committee Member. PM me |
