I love it...What do u think?

As someone who read about painful 40 pages of it and realized that it was utterly terrible book that was geared towards masses of people, I would have to say no. Do you realize how much the author talks about how hot Edward Cullen is? I don't care if I am a guy, I wouldn't want to read about a girl's beauty over and over again either. Bella is such a stereotypically plain character who has hot guys going after her. Sorry, but fabricated (or real) romances - very boring.

No. And before anyone tries to claim it's because I'm a guy, let me go on record saying I'm open-minded enough to enjoy a well-written romance, and frankly, Twilight was heavily unsatisfying. And the movie just took everything bad about the book and amplified it.

There's a reason why a lot of Twilight girls are single. Because they are obsessed with Edward Cullen...

Oh, and I'd think a scene from Queen of the Damned is better.

Re: Do you like Twilight? - June 19th 2009, 04:17 AM

Another Twilight thread? Well, I'm not a fan of it. I've seen parts of the movie and I never wish to see it again. I watched it to see if maybe I was wrong on it being crap from what the previews showed. I was right, it was crap. If I wanted a vampire-based movie, I'd turn to Queen of the Damned and some others.

The whole drama thing with the vampire-nonvampire relationship and the other vampires getting involved could be decent but this movie just shat all over that idea. For starters, the acting was pretty lame. Starting with Bella, she was dull, boring, there was really nothing spectacular from her. Edward and Bella even together were boring, they both seemed disinterested in each other, the drama for it was horrid.

The fight between the vampires was not great. It seemed to mix together Superman and a pale, clammy vampire, so I was confused over just what the hell they are supposed to be. Sadly, the fighting wasn't a saving grace. Some decent bits here and there but not great.

It seems to try to give this unrealistic view for teenage girls of what teenage boys could in some other universe be and it drags this out endlessly.

You also have numerous face-shots of Edward and Bella and for so many of them there's little emotion conveyed. If there's a drama movie, then I expect emotion, not blank, pale-skinned stares. This movie seemed to revolve around teenage girls (mostly) paying attention to the concepts behind the movie, the "acting" that showed love without really caring to make it decent acting.

Underworld did a vampire-nonvampire relationship (later that changes but bear with it when it didn't) and that was a hell of a lot better.

Re: Do you like Twilight? - June 19th 2009, 08:31 AM

The first book was badly written, but beyond that, I didn't really have any objections. Yeah, the characters were one dimensional and a lot of it seemed to revolve around describing the perfection of Edward, but it's hardly the only bad piece of writing out there. The later ones I have serious problems with, mostly revolving around the idealizing of Bella and Edward's relationship - Edward acts controlling and irrational, doing idiotic things like dismantling Bella's truck so she can't see her best friend without his knowledge...any other scenario such control would be bordering on an abusive relationship, but here it's excused by "but he really loves her and wants to protect her!" It's horrible that so many young impressionable girls look up to Twilight as the model of relationships to strive for.

I think that Twilight is completely over-rated. I thought the film was alright but I found the book itself to be childish, I didn't like the way it was written.
I'm not a fan of the storyline though to be honest. A teenager falling in love with a vampire at school? Not for me.

I loveee Twilight!
Though I prefer the book more. The movie is just... I dunno.
Edward looks ugly in the movie, no offense though.
His face's whiteness is a bit exaggerated, don't you think?
& his lips are too red. He looks like he has lipstick on when it should look more natural!

But I still love Twilight!

I prefer the books over the movie but both are good.

Although I don't understand the obsession some fans have with Edward Cullen, he really doesn't appeal to me that much as he does to others.

Just his whiteness? God, at least half, if not more, of that cast was airbrushed so pale that they made me (in all of my natural, "I'm not a big fan of the outdoors" paleness) look like a freaking bronze statue. Carlisle alone looked like he could blind anyone who happened to stand at the wrong angle relative to him. Combined with the lifeless performances from at least half the Cullen family and Kristen Stewart, they might as well have dug up a bunch of cadavers and led them around from above with strings like marionettes. Though frankly, it already looked like they were doing that with Jasper. I had to hold back laughter the first time he had significant screen time.

The first book was great, I thought. I thought the series was a good one, aside from the last book, which I didn't like to much. What I think is stupid is all the buzz about the books. People are way to obsessed with them, whether they're obsessed with Edward Cullen or obsessed with convincing people that the books suck.
One thing that confuses me though is who would want to date someone so close to "perfect" like Edward? I mean really, how boring. And personally I would not be dazzled by a dude with sparkling skin, if I saw some random guy sparkling in the sun I would be a little more than freaked out.

Hiya,

The movie to me was all wrong. I don't usually like the movies they make for books. It was dissappointing.

However the book was amazing. That's what I love about reading, the author allows the reader to kinda of create their own fantasy with a little guidance from the author. It was a great book. =)

I love the books, and I liked the movie.
I can understand why some people don't like it though - I agree that Stephenie Meyer is not the most talented writer ever, and Edward was a a bit creepy and overcontrolling at times. But still, I enjoyed it.

Re: Do you like Twilight? - June 20th 2009, 10:22 PM

The Books:

It was a good series I thought. I have never read anything else that author wrote, but it seems like she is not a very good writer. She seems to have a very limited vocabulary, which can make reading the books a little mundane at times. I think it is a good story, I think she is a way better story teller then she is a writer.

The Movie:

I feel like the wrong Bella was casted. She just wasn’t pretty enough. And I know that the book says she is really plain, but all these guys are supposed to be attracted to her so I visualized her being so much more beautiful. Not to mention I don’t think the actress that plays Bella, portrays her well at all.
The guy who plays Edward isn’t handsome enough as well, BUT I don’t think anyone could be, because he is supernaturally pretty. So… what are you gonna do?
I think, however, the Cullens look really well, especially Alice, she looks dead on, like I thought she would be.

Spoiler:
I am actually really excited to see the fourth movie the most, I want to see how they do Nessy, and her pregnancy. Though I don’t know how they are going to do four movies without the vampire actors getting noticeably older. That’s going to be a challenge for them.

The books are entertaining but I lost patience with Breaking Dawn, I didn't like it.

The movie was funny in an unintentional way but the second one looks better.

The Books -
Terribly written, unoriginal ideas and unoriginal characters but a very compulsive read. I got well into the books, shamefully.
I think they are fun to read and shouldn't be taken any more seriously than that.

The film - Not so much of a fan. I do enjoy watching it and even bought it on dvd, but not a great film - again, just something fun.

ALSO, did anyone else notice how Bella was paler than most of the actual vampires in the film?

I hate Twilight, it's a poorly written series, it seems like bad fanfiction and there are quite a few plot holes. Plus Edward is abusive and Bella is anti-feminist.

Read all of why I hate it : here.

That bothers me a lot about them...Edward acts in ways that would under any other circumstances be considered abusive, manipulating, controlling etc, but in the books and among its fans, it's excused as him just really loving her and wanting to protect her. And 13 year old fangirls with silly romantic ideals idolize the series as the depiction of the perfect relationship.

It’s just a story and it is supposed to be fake. Honestly I rather 13 year old girls read books, then watch TV about some guy being abusive or sexist. Reading books is a dying form of entertainment, and anything that gets teens reading again, is fine in my book.

I think it's important that children read. But I'd rather have children watch a tv show depicting abuse as it actually is - ie despicable - than have them read a book with subtle hints at such relationship being healthy and desirable.

the book was great, the movie was pretty good, but the movie compared to the book was dissappointing.

“I cannot prevent anyone from getting angry, or mad, or frustrated. I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978
