I need book suggestions!!! (I like violent or funny books) - July 4th 2009, 06:05 PM

I need to find more books I like but having a real hard time finding them. (I have to come up with an 'unbirthday' list for my uncle who give us presents over summer instead of when our birthday is...)
Has anyone read these books and liked them and also liked another book or author? Some of my favorites are:
Demonata - Darren Shan
Cirque Du Freak - Darren Shan
King Dork - Frank Portman
Odd Thomas series - Dean Koontz
You Don't Know Me - David Klass

I'm a fan of either extreme violence (demonata), extreme humor (king dork), or really realistic but shitty lives (you don't know me).
Please help

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Scarred by Sophie Andrews is an amazing true-life story.
Oh, and I'm going to chuck in my suggestion of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", it's rather amusing in parts (Usually unintentionally). Though it's probably not quite what you're looking for, It's a really great book.

Try out Dave Pelzer's series or Don't Tell Mummy by Toni Maguire. They're about kids that grew up being abused.

Read some of the Stephanie Plum series by janet Evanovich(uhhh I forget exactly her last name). The first one is called One For the Money. Even if I spelled the author's last name wrong you should be able to find them. They're really funny books about Stephanie Plum who ends up becoming a bounty hunter because she has no job. They are sort of violent sometimes but not overly. You should check that series out.

Try "Consider Phlebas" by Iain M. Banks, gripping and surprisingly violent sci-fi.

Also, be sure to read "The Wasp Factory" by Iain Banks, same author, he just puts in the M for his sci-fi stuff.

Chuck Palahniuk books have a very dark humor to them. I guess it's more messed up than violent, but still something to check out. Though it's messed up, you'll find yourself laughing anyway because of the way he writes. He wrote Fight Club...If you've ever seen that movie you'll have an idea of what kind of style he has.

I recommend Fight Club, or Choke.

Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff is pretty funny/slightly violent, and I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak is funny. You might like those.

Also, if you like Darren Shan books, then you'll like Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. It doesn't have a lot of gore, but it is quite freaky.
