Numerals are used for exact times.

I did not think there were steadfast rules for writing numbers. Generally it is based on preference whether you write out the number or not. Especially when it comes to time, you should not feel bad about just putting down the numbers. You can write out 'one o'clock' if you want to, but it is not necessary.

I would write it out, so "In the eighth grade...".

Ages would be the same as grade. When writing, generally you would write "I am seventeen" instead of "I am 17".
Most of the time the only thing that is numbers are times like "8:00" instead of "eight o'clock". I just find it reads better to write most numbers out, but it is a preference. ![]() The great artists of our time are the ones who created something timeless.
