Maximum ride series - December 9th 2009, 11:31 PM

So, I was trying to think of a good christmas present for my neice and I was wondering if the maximum ride series would be good for her. She is 10 years old, almost 11 but she has a high reading level. She finished reading the twilight series a while ago and she liked it (although she thought it was too happily ever after ) I have no doubt that she would be able to read this series but I am wondering if the concepts and what not would be too adultish? For her.

So, any ideas about whether or not this book would be good for her would help. Or, if you have some suggestions of what I could get her I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Jenna

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

If she's old enough for Twilight, she's old enough for Maximum Ride.

Maximum Ride are extremely simple books. She'll have no problem reading them, and there really isn't any mature content, since the main characters are kids.

I do love Maximum Ride though. Quite a lot. xD She might also enjoy Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.

Thanks. I figured that they probably wouldn't have too much mature content but I wanted to make sure. She already read the Corneilia Funke novels and loved them. LOL. She loves to read.

They're a PERFECT series. I LOVED them.

I want a moment to be real
Want to touch things I don't feel
Want to hold on, and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change?
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me, but I'm still here

I should expand by saying that none of the concepts or anything are too adultish- they're meant for her age group: pre-teens on a high reading level.

I've never read the Maximum Ride books, however if she likes Twilight, she might like Evermore.

Re: Maximum ride series - December 11th 2009, 05:29 PM

I started to read the Maximum Ride novels when I was 11 or 12, I think. I really loved them and still do. They're even less 'adultish' than Twilight, so I think she'd definitely like them. Plus they're a series, so if she does like them she'll be able to continue reading them. She might also really like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, they're probably perfect for her reading and age level. It's always fun to pick out books for people Good luck!

Psh. I still like Maximum Ride. If she read Twilight then I think that she will be fine with Maximum Ride. If you are unsure if she will like it, then only get her the first book. If she likes it then you and continue to get her the books for her birthday or next Christmas, or she can get the books on her own. I don't really think the concept will be a problem; it is kids with wings who live in an evil school and escape.

All in all, I'll think she'll enjoy it. Go for it!
