The Purpose For Pain - December 29th 2009, 08:25 PM

Does anyone else own this book? It's a collection of journals By Renne Yohe....The person who ispired the foundation TWLOHA.

Anyways I have a couple of questions for the people that do own it or have read it.
What do you think of it?
Did you think it was hard to read as in the hand writitng?
Would you recomend it to other people?
Did you think it was Triggering in some parts?

As the smoke clears
I awaken, and untangle you from me
Would it make you, feel better to watch me while I bleed?
All my windows, still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

LOVE=LOVE NO MATTER WHAT

Re: The Purpose For Pain - December 29th 2009, 10:09 PM

1) I've read more or less 3/4 of it a while ago and haven't touched it for a while. I loved what I read though, moving and good to read.
2) Yep, so hard at points that I just skipped those bits out.
3)Definately.
4)Hmn, maybe. Not to me, but I don't have any past in self injury.. I'm sure it's not very triggering, because it would've been edited to prevent that but some people could find it to be so. There was at least one very upsetting part.

What do you think of it?
I think it was really cool to read. I'd looked up to Renee for a long time as I'd been following TWLOHA since the start more or less. It was cool being able to connect with the feelings she felt and to be able to get to know more about her. I also got to meet Renee and talk to her one-on-one for a while, and she's just one of the most amazing people ever. She's incredibly eloquent and well-spoken in her writing (and in real life).

Did you think it was hard to read as in the hand writing?
Sometimes. I ended up making a key of some of her letters because sometimes they looked like other letters to me (I'm a bit dyslexic ).

Would you recommend it to other people?
Honestly, there's a few groups of people I would not recommend this book to. People who haven't experienced depression or any addictions potentially will find nothing interesting or good about this book. It's not really a book you read for fun. On the other hand, I suppose people who haven't experienced depression or addictions may be able to learn something more than just facts, namely the real and raw emotions that people feel. I also don't recommend this for people especially sensitive to upsetting and triggering material. I'll explain about that in the next answer, though.

Did you think it was triggering in some parts?
Yes. There are some pages with her blood on them and a few drawings that are a bit violent. Also obviously the subject matter is painful and her writing encapsulates all of it perfectly, but it's upsetting.

Arg... the title's bothering me... It's Purpose for the Pain... sorry, I just had to point that out!!!

What do you think of it?
I think that it is absolutely amazing. I have a bunch of pages bookmarked for references when I need them, especially prayers & such.
Did you think it was hard to read as in the hand writitng?
Occasionally, yes.
Would you recomend it to other people?
I'd recommend it to the world!
Did you think it was Triggering in some parts?
Definitely, but it was okay for me. =\

Becca. :]

I got it for Christmas

1. I loved it I found it very encouraging.
2. The hand writing did get difuclt to read at times and I had to skip some parts.
3. Yea I'd recommend it, it can really get you thinking and its encouraging
4. I do think it was triggering in parts but seeing as the title is Purpose for the Pain I knew that it would be triggering some times.

What do you think of it?
I loved it, I thought it was really well written and really eye opening.
Did you think it was hard to read as in the hand writitng?

Not really, it didn't bother me.
Would you recomend it to other people?

Depends, I think if you haven't suffered through similar things it can be quite difficult to get whats happening to her... does that make sense?
Did you think it was Triggering in some parts?

yes.
