Question writers block/ losing interest? - July 26th 2010, 08:06 PM

SO I'm writer and I've been working on this book for awhile, it's not amazing but it's not horrid either and I have a real good time writing it but i have real bad writers block.
Every time I get writers block it last for months and it sucks but have you ever had that one kinda writers block that is so bad you feel like you've lost interest in the book, looking at the page you try to make the words fit but somehow or way it just doesn't feel right; it makes you wanna just give up on the darn thing.
I hate it because you know i really felt I was getting somewhere with this one and then just BAM.
Your sitting there staring at the last sentence thinking, you can feel the writers block and it's like then just BOOM you look at the old lines and you can feel it, like there is no interest in it anymore, like. . . just thinking about it it feels like your doing it just for work and not because you want
I set myself a deadline because I knew without it that I wouldn't get anything done so I set myself to the end of this year which I thought was pretty nice of me because I've already spent two years on the thing.
So anyways do you know of anyway to get the interest back or writers block gone?

Im not writing a book, But i do write some music, and usually what i do when i get writers block i listen to the music that got me inspired to become a musician, so maybe try reading the books that got you interested in being a writer,

I wirte too and here are things I do when I have wirters block:

1) Listen to music that makes me think of my characters and their stories. Usually music helps inspire me to start working on the story so when I get writers block I listen to those specific songs that inspired me in the beginning. However if those songs don't work I listen to random things and see if they spark anything
2) I usually work on 2 or more stories. I have one story that is priority and the other one takes the back seat. Usually when this occurs my writers block happens for the main story but not the other one so I can take a day or two and work on the second story which then helps inspire me to get back into the grove of things on my main story.
3) I read a book. A lot of the times I read a book that relates to my book in some way; through themes or genre or something. Like if I am writing a supernatural fiction I will read some fantasy/supernatural books. If I am writing a book that has a theme about loss, recovery, denial, hurt etc I will read a book that has those types of themes or back drops. Sometimes those book give me new ideas or inspire me to pick up on the book again
4) I will take in a movie. I find that movies spark my writing skills and get me out of the writers block.
5) I take a day and do whatever I want and completely forget about the story etc. This really helps because the story is usually a big focus so when I take time and step away from it can come back with a vengence
6) Sometimes I just have to cave into the writers block and let it pass when it wants too.

I find having a deadline increases the intensity of my writers block because I stress over the writers block and worry about how long it is going to be there and the worrying doesn't help at all.

Hope this helped and best of luck with your story.

Jenna

There could never be amore beautiful you

You were made tofill a purposethat only you could do

-Johnny Diaz

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

The only way to get through it is to sit down and persevere as you work your way through. You have to fill your quota of 1000 words a day. And even if what you write is rubbish so long as you've written something an dprogressed your story you can come back and do it up at a later stage which, in my experience, is a hundred times easier.

I have this problem pretty frequently. I usually go for walks while listening to music to get ideas.

Sometimes working on other literary works also relieve the pressure from the other story. Hope this helps!
