Catcher in the Rye - August 7th 2010, 02:49 PM

I'm assuming that quite a few people here must have read The Catcher and the Rye by JD Salinger, because it's a very popular book.

For those who have read it, did you enjoy it? If so, why did you enjoy it so much?
I know that it's popular and many people rate it as one of their favourite books but I personally can't understand why. I'd love to hear other people's views on the book.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I had to read it for school, and I did enjoy it although it wasn't my favorite book. I guess the counseling part of my personality was drawn to the 'inside the mind of a troubled youth' concept.

I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favourite book. There is little plot and it is mostly character development so most people either love it or hate it. I found it interesting.

I liked it. It wasn't the best thing I have ever read or anything but it was decent. I guess I liked how the story unfolded and how slowly the character starts to learn things about his life. It kind of showed how the human mind works, in a way. I definitely don't think it is my favorite book but it was intriguing.

There could never be amore beautiful you

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

It was okay. It was the best book we were forced to read in school. But that's not saying much.
