The Beach -

Dollars to doughnuts most of you have seen the movie. But I was wondering, who, if any have read the book by Alex Garland?
I read the book before the movie, and then had to watch the movie out of interest. And by god do I despise it. They cut my favourite character, and in my opinion, the best character from the film! They even gave his lines to other characters. ![]() I know movies are never as good as the books, but this one just made me so mad. There were far too many differences. So any other lovers of the book, but haters of the film?

What is it even about? Because I've not heard of the book or the movie.

Oh man! I could not agree more. I adore the book and the film just made so many totally needless changes. I understand that film makers need to make some changes to adapt it to the big screen but they just took the piss.
I guess Jed is the character they missed out whom you liked? I couldn't rationalise their decision to miss him out, he was such a major part of the plot. Spoiler: And I wont even get started on the end of the film. ![]() The film pretty much missed out on both the humour and on the whole point of the book. Such a waste, I hope it will be remade properly one day. |

Jed was the character, yes. I adored him, he made the story for me. I think they felt the need to add more drama to it, but it was amazing the way it was. I couldn't agree more Jack. Hopefully someone will come to their senses and realise it was a disaster.
Lynds, it's basically a story of people seeking 'paradise' in Thailand. Very few people know about it, and they live very simply.
