I stood up for my friend..but am upset.. - December 12th 2009, 04:56 AM

so today at lunch my friend got hit in the face with a bottle. A male student at my school threw it at her purposely, so i told her to say something to him. They ended up getting into a little bit of an arguement; so i told him to STFU and he got up into my face and put his finger on my face. i slapped his hand away and told him NOT TO TOUCH ME and went to get up to level myself to him and he shoved me back down into a friend who i sit next to at lunch and i have bruises on my elbow and leg from this. so after he shoved me i went to turn back toward him and he grabbed me by my neck so his little sister seperated us. and as she pushed him away he pulled back a fist to swing at me but his sister pushed him away so he couldnt swing at me. so i turned and sat down and he walked away... this guy is a big football player and we go to a catholic school. maybe a min after sitting down i left the cafe and walked to my dean of disicplne and told him as did the teacher in the cafe. but the teacher didnt see the fight she just saw him knock over the garbage can and he told her to shut up when she told him to pick it up. so the next period people are talking about what happened and saying i was wrong and that i shouldnt of started and i feel as though i stood up for a friend of mine whose my best friend and much smaller then me. and this guy whose a football player who attacked me only got 4 days suspension. everyone thinks he should be expelled from school for what he did. a part of me is so angry and a part of me is scared. .. idk what to do or think but i want him outta our school. after all this happened his friends are telling me to watch my back and stuff. like what should i do? the administration doesnt wanna hear anymore because the situation was handled but he got a slap on the wrist basically because hes a football player. the players know they can get away with anything and its not fair. he put his hands on a girl whose smaller then him and a girl in general. as a football player he should know better and just in general kno better. i think the school should make an example by expelling him cause its not right. i went to the police with my mom in the town my schools in and filled out a report. if school doesnt extend or re think his punishment i can press charges. and the rules of my school are u are expelled if you do something serious and i think breaking the law is serious. why doesnt anyone like wanna know about it? its like because hes a star on the ftball team its alright to do what he did and its never ok. esp. when i have bruises. and he choked me. just give me some advice.. =(

You were very brave to stand up to him. This is a common problem in schools, where teachers claim not to be able to do something about violent students. If your teachers aren't doing anything about it, I really do suggest telling the police. He assaulted both of you. Expulsion might not be the best answer, but at the very least it seems like he needs some anger management therapy.

Your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it and you'll ask yourself, "Where is my mind?"

Leave it how it is for now, unless he does it again. Well done for standing up for your friend! You did the right thing.

You did the right thing standing up for your friend, I think you're very brave. Thing is it's not uncommon for teachersto claim ignorance or inability about bullying because it's easier. just try and keep a detailed record of any incidents, and wherever you can try and be unresponsive or calm. Because all the time you are calm and are not acting against him, he is permenantly in the wrong. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Good job on standing up for your friend. I would tell the principal of the school what is going on. Good luck!
