What can I do? - January 7th 2009, 03:18 PM

All throughout middle school and now in high school, I am being bullied almost every day. I was stabbed in middle school and had my life threatened in high school. I hate going to school and I'm pretty much fed up. The school system isn't doing a darn thing and I don't know what to do.

Any advice would be great!

Hey Caitlin. This isn't fair. If people are threatening you physically, that should definitely be reported and that your school looks into that. Why are people treating you this way? Try to be around other people as much as you can because bullies tend to pick on people when they are alone, just to impress their own crowd of people. Tell your teachers about this. I'm sure someone can help you out with this. Talk to a school counselor, tell your parents if you have to. This is serious if it does affect you at school. Try your best to stand strong. Not to let them see the hurt. Take a stand. Be strong with your words. By taking a stand, they will have more respect for you because it does show strength. I hope it all gets better soon Caitlin.

As Vincent said, physical threats need to be reported. It's not right for your school to ignore this. Be persistent. Contact the administration at your school, talk with your teachers or school guidance counselors, etc. Don't let them just push the issue aside, your safety is important and it's not fair to you, to have to put up with this on a daily basis.

If worst comes to worst, talk to your parents about transferring schools. This is probably a last-resort sort of option; you shouldn't have to leave your school because of other kids. But, again, you shouldn't have to be in an environment like this, especially as you spend quite a bit of time in school.

In the meantime, try to stay around large groups of people. They may not physically hurt you if there are a lot of people around. Stand your ground and show them you're strong and aren't affected by them.

Take care.

Thanks Sarah. You know a lot of people have been telling me the same thing but i haven't really been believing them until now. And I guess I probably should have. Thanks.

I know you've done a lot of things. Go tell Mrs. BigMeanPrincipalLady if they don't do something about it, you'll call the media. Worked for me, for graduation.

Hey there,

Look i know what it like to get bullied so i'm here for you.

Because you have been physically hurt you can technically report that to the police..

Don't give up your hope for a better day. I was bullied all threw middle school, I found that if you just ignore it as hard as it maybe it goes away. No one likes to pick on the kid who doesn't care about it. I know you've probably been told that but just try it for a while.

Thanks Troy.

And yeah your right...I have heard that a lot.

We were studying a unit in one of our classes that had to do with bullying. And my teacher showed up statistics that said if you ignore the bullies that they actually don't go away...they actuallly get more mad. So after I heard that I kinda just lost all hope. But thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Sorry Kyle. I was looking at your headline. My mistake. Lol

No, it's not fair. I finished high school last year and let me tell you, it was hell.
I didn't do one of the years - I missed it and they I had to do a million exams. Trust me, that's not what you want. I know what its like. But you don't want to stop going, because then what will you do about it? It will hurt you even more.
Schools... well, almost all of them, don't help. Because it's easier to pretend that's nothing happening. But that must not be a reason to ruin these years of your life. It's all in the mind, really. You have to start thinking they haven't got the right to say anything to you, because you're a person and that's the important thing. Don't fight them, anyway.
Like the song says... "weapons in the form of words". That's it. Talk. Answer when they say something. And as Vincent said, don't let them see they hurt you, because it's horrible but they have fun with it. If they see they can't do anything to you, they'll get tired (I don't know what statistics say.. but it worked for me. Maybe the "talking" part is about telling teachers and parents, but if children see they have power, it's the worst thing ever). Last year was better for me because of that. :]

What country are you in? How old are you? Is this gang related or self inflicted (Did you start it...)?

The best advice I can give you, switch schools and look for a new start.

I myself have had a great amount of bullying, I've had it since Grade 6. Got threatenned and jumped, everytime I just laughed away walking away.

Don't let them bother you.

Remember who you're friends are.

Don't put yourself in those situations.

Stay safe.

This is Caitlin's sister :]
We're in the United States; in Maryland. And no, it isn't gang related. And she can't switch schools. There isn't another school near our house for her to get transportation to. :/

Just Math and Science. And A-deen. And Grace is one too, now, I hear. For the arts.
