I'd support you in shutting the site down! I used to get hate mail all the time on it... i eventually realised it wasnt worth listening to anymore and i deleted my account. My life has been a million times easier without it and my self esteem has risen dramatically.. i dont know how you'd go about shutting a site like that down. maybe start an online protest or something?

Formspring itself isn't bad, Just like facebook and myspace and even this website. Its not bad, its just open to abuse. You can't blame the website for things the users are saying. It is only bad if users make it bad.

Shit happens in life. You can't live in a bubble forever. I don't think its that bad. If people are going to bully people, they will.

There was an app for myspace and facebook the same as this. They move on. If you close down formspring another will pop up. You're powerless.

Shutting the site down? [Removed.]
It's what the users make of it! Sure, you can email the site and ask them to remove anonymous posting. But it's like Facebook. It's what users make of it. I don't recommend they take the site down. I do however support you emailing the administrators and asking them to make it a requirement to have an account to ask people questions. I thought about you for the rest of the day. Catching my head turning to find you again. I hated myself for it. |

I don't think you could get it taken down. At the end of the day, it's up to the individual to decide to have formspring or not. It's not like they are being forced into having one.

Hey, I appreciate what you're saying here and your concern for other teens and mambers of society. However, as many others have said, I really don't think you have a leg to stand on here. Formspring is popular with so many people that I think you'd struggle to get enough signatures against it. I personally think it's a great procrastination tool (not sure if that's a good of a bad thing
) and I, along with a number of my friends use it. Yes, I've had a little bit of a abuse on it, but at the end of the day, if people can't say it to my face, it's not really worth listening to.To be honest, it's people's choice whether to sign up or not and you can delete your account if it all gets too much. The site, in itself, is not bad, it's just what the people using it make of it, and formspring don't have any control over what people are posting. So, I'm really sorry but I'm not convinced that this petition is going to work. |

Hrmmm i don't know where your other thread went so i'll just post here.
Vlora, has a very good point, you close it down and another will appear. Its better to spread awareness about it and warn people of its dangers. I think the main goal should be to spread enough awareness of its dangers that no one will go onto site, (well that is if they know they can't take bad comments) Some silly people said that people are free to leave formspring if they want to, however if that was the case then people would have quit... NOT commit suicide!! I think its addictive to keep checking back on formspring just to see if someones posted more bad comments. And people keep looking and looking and become even more sad. If i were you i'd do some research on it, maybe talk to a few people who have gone on formspring. know your enemy! Then using psychology you can successfully warn people. Also i'd be happy to help. ![]() |

I've been on formspring and had some rather mean stuff said, sure it upset me for a tiny bit, but at the end of the days it's from a idiot who can't even say it to my face and I knew it was most likely going to happen, so is it worth bothering about? No, it's not. In the end I just decided to not bother with it or if I did, to take it all as a joke. People sign up for it, so they should know what to expect. It's really not that hard to just click the red cross in the corner.

There's no reason to shut down formspring. If I go on there for some advice and receive only hurtful comments, then I should know not to go back there because I will likely get the same or similar comments. It's like accidentally burning your finger on a stove top, after you do it once you know it hurts so you shouldn't do it again because you know the result will be the same or worse. Despite this, people who dislike formspring and are emotionally hurt by the comments continue to go and continue to complain about the website.
If anything, two things should happen. First, put up a warning about the contents possibly offending you if one is not in play. Have it also show how to delete your account and report abuse to moderators or site admins. Second, those who are hurt by it should deal with their hurt in a productive way, not by revisiting the very same thing that hurts as that implies there may be a mental illness. Shutting it down is an excuse for those who are hurt by it to not have any blame on themselves for revisiting it. Besides, new ones will appear and nobody in their right mind is serious enough to constantly have them all taken down. It puts those who are hurt on a higher level and ruins the experience for the millions of others who like to use it. The one solution that makes everyone happy is this: if you don't like it, don't go. |

Just personal view: teens who have a formspring need to think about whether it's worth it to them. If they think it won't bother them, then they should keep it. Having it is a responsibility. Another option is to not tell anyone other than friends about your formspring.

Personally I think Formspring is cute in a way, I've been receiving and giving anonymous compliments and it feels good. However I do think teenagers take it a bit too seriously. Anyone who is being bullied through Formspring should disregard harsh comments. A truly good person would never send anonymous hatred, so why worry about what they have to say? If anyone reading this is feeling down due to Formspring, let me know and I'll gladly pick you right back up. [:

If you are getting bullied on Formspring, you can switch your settings to where anonymous questions are not allowed.
I think that would solve most people's bullying issues on that site. If you are still being bothered by it, delete it. I honestly don't think Formspring will ever be shut down. Even if it did, something similar to it would be created. |

I tink that a good idea
But to get the site shut down, i suggest you start a petition for it, get alot of people to sign it (in the 1,000's) and then send it to your local representatives so they can take the action. |

Re: against formspring -

there is already an option so that you don't accept anonymous 'questions'. and for the most part that will prevent people leaving you abuse.. because bullies are almost always complete cowards. of course, they could make an 'anonymous' account just to send someone abusive messages though.
i think the website is a fun idea, and it was fun at first.. before people started to use it as a way of having a go at people. i don't think it should be shut down though. if you don't like what people have to say, disable your account.. or don't make an account. no one is being forced to use formspring so if you don't like it, don't use the site. simple as that really. cyber bullying happens all over the internet. people get bullied on facebook, do you think facebook should be shut down too?.. what about myspace, tumblr.. etc.?. |

I dont think u can compare formspring to facebook && myspace.. on facebook& myspace u meet ppl.. Well i'm a frequent user of fb && fb iis ntn like formspring && i wud help get it shout down if its possible. Formspring ppl ask u questions about ur life especially anonymous, say mean stuff to u && diss u. First of all I wouldn't join it because i don't like the whole world in my business and worse if someone anonymous is asking. If someone cant ask me infront my face why go anonymous and ask that just means your not suppose to kno

I would totally support shutting down formspring. ive been bullied by several people, including ppl i didnt know! I'd love to help get it taken down everyone i know has been bullied and tortured on there and its not right. because a lot of the stuff from formspring is brought into daily life, school and stuff like that it doesnt end when u delete ur account.
{Yes.I am confused about my life. And not everything makes a lot of sense right now. But I know that I love you and that you make everything alright,and thats all that matters to me <3 }
