[not sure where this belongs]
My school is filled with girls who can buy the most expensive clothes right when they come out. Me, however, I'm wearing things from four years ago. It's a struggle for me to pick something out in the morning because I have very few things to pick from. I had about the same two pairs of shoes for four years. Most of the time I feel uncomfortable at school because of what I'm wearing. A couple times people have made fun of or made remarks about my clothes that just made me feel so bad. "Are you in gym right now?" No...that's my outfit for the day. Does anyone else ever feel this way? please feel free to share your stories

If people criticize you for how you look, I think it's quite shallow because it's clothing, it's the outside of you. Doesn't matter if you're wearing rags or a $1400 shirt and $2300 pants. I think if people are focused on buying fancy clothing for the sake of looking fancy, it shows shallowness. Most of my clothing is average price or cheap and when I get criticized for it, I laugh and tell the person to have fun wasting money on a petty name brand and that I pity them because they go to such great lengths to be accepted. You don't go to great lengths and you don't need to.
I don't wear very expensive clothing, however, I do have several pieces of clothing that are expensive (i.e. $600-800+). I don't wear too expensive clothing because much of the price is for the brand name and I don't care about brand name. To me, if it looks ugly, it's ugly, I don't care if it's appraised by fashion editors, if it's ugly, it's not getting on my body. I've been complimented many times for my clothing in that it looks expensive but it really isn't for the most part. When I wear clothes, it's numerous brand names and if I can get a similar looking item near-by for a lot cheaper, I'll buy the cheaper one. In my view, I'm not out to make a fashion statement. If others like my clothing, excellent, if they don't, doesn't bother me. If you don't have much money, you're not out to make a fashion statement and that's perfectly fine. In a way, it shows you're not shallow and appreciate yourself. Also, it shows you're succeeding despite having life constraints, which to me, is indicitive of confidence and power. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

It is wrong for people to critisize and make rude remarks about your clothing and you shouldn't have to put up with it, but there is a solution. Firstly, I'd suggest ignoring the people that make these remarks about what you wear, and just walk away. However, there is a limit, and if you feel they're starting to really upset you, then I'd encourage you to tell somebody about it. It isn't fair and it isn't nice.
Feel free to PM me if you need to talk anytime.

The best thing is ignore them; or if they ask you are you in gym, just say yep! smile, or wink and walk away
![]() I don't shop at expensive places at all, not only do i not have the money, but clothes are so easy to ruin, spill things on them, my dog ^_^ etc etc so its a waste of money in my opinion. I usually go shopping every other weekend with sometimes a tenner? sometimes twenty, and i just buy little bits here and there, and i mix and match things so it looks like a new outfit. There are plenty of people in my school who have clothes way too small for them, and old and scruffy, yeah they get judged, but they just ignore it and nobody cares in the end

My school is pretty bad for this, and I know how you feel. Once, a girl looked at an outfit I was wearing and casually said to her friend, "I seriously can't wear the same shirt twice in a year. Like, I feel so dirty."
Just don't let them get to you, clothing is clothing and it shouldn't define who you are on the inside or make you feel uncomfortable. Personally I try to take everything as a compliment, or think about how much money I'm saving for other things by not buying 10 new outfits each week! "Upon us all a little rain must fall..."

My school has a uniform, so nobody gets these types of issues. Only benefit of a uniform that I know of.
I thought about you for the rest of the day. Catching my head turning to find you again. I hated myself for it. |

Wow, I'm honestly sorry that you are getting treated like this. Unfortunately, looks mean a lot to people. You're going to get that wherever you go. And even if you dressed to the nines, I'm sure someone would still find something wrong with your outfit. It's important to surround yourself with people who like you for you. I mean, those are the kinds of people you want in your life, right? I know it's difficult, but you can do this. Also, can you shop at thrift stores? I know that you can come up with some really trendy outfits are places like that. I shopped at thrift stores. They are fun because you don't know what you're going to get. Try and hang in there <3
