Name calling. - June 6th 2011, 08:48 PM

Does anyone have any advice to give to my little sister as to name calling? I don't really have any advice to give because I was never in that situation. I guess one of her friends heard me call her the nickname I gave her and they're making fun of her over it.

Hid,

Name calling is something many people go through in school, myself being one of them. It's hard to offer advice on this as you can tell a person time and time again to ignore it, but it hurts and that's the problem. The one thing I have been told all my life is to tell someone. It's important someone knows about the situation as they can keep a look out for anything taking place about it. Perhaps a teacher at school or someone similar. It is bullying and should be treated as such.

I hope your sister is doing okay though and not letting it upset her too much. I wish her all the best and I hope it ends soon as it really loweds self esteem and confidence. Be there for her and support her, she will need it and be very greatful for your support. Other than that, just reassure her it will be okay.

Take care,
Hollie.

The kids that were calling my sister names called the house phone and my sister said she would talk to them, and she did and apologized to them for getting angry about them calling her the name, and they apologized to her, so hopefully it will be alright now.

I'm glad that things are starting to shape up!
If anything re-occurs, tell her to just get them back with insults WAY over their heads!

Wow, you're as sharp as a marble.

You have a plentiful lack of wit.

Just chill. If she gets disturbed because someone doesn't like her, or calls her a name, she is pretty damn insecure.

I don't think that's right. Especially if you're a girl, growing up, bullying is a really hard thing to go through. I am not a guy, so I don't know if boys take name calling the same way as girls, but it can be pretty damaging if you don't know how to properly respond to it.
I think your reply was very offensive and wrong. If you have nothing nice or helpful to say, then don't say anything at all.

I'm glad to hear that the bullies have apologized to your sister, I hope everything will be okay for her.
