I'm going into my third year of uni and I feel like my youth is over. What can I do to elevate this feeling? - September 12th 2018, 11:15 PM

I am entering third year of university(20) and feel like my youth is over. I see the freshmen entering and it makes me feel so old compared to them and HS seniors. I feel anxious as I feel like I've wasted my youth. What can I do to elevate this feeling?

Why do you feel like you have wasted your youth? What is it that you feel like you wasted? I feel like if you can name those things it will help you to address those things and figure out how to manage the feeling that you wasted your youth.

Personally, I don't think your right; you're feelings are right because you're absolutely allowed to feel however you feel and, trust me, from experience, don't let people tell you that your reaction to a situation or your feelings about a situation are wrong because it's rooted in a real place for you, but I feel like sometimes our feelings and our judgements on ourselves lead to negative judgements about ourselves and that's the part where maybe you are wrong.

I say this because I speak from experience. I was suffering from depression and anxiety a lot without knowing how to handle it - I also have ADHD. It made it super hard to be involved socially, I was also being bullied so my social life suffered due to my mental health and feeling socially isolated. So when I think about maybe my teen years were wasted, I have to acknowledge that part of it was due to this. When that comes up, well, adults can still have full and fun social lives too, so I can still have a social life and that's great and it'll be better cause know how to find like minded people an, well, ok, sure, maybe I didn't get to experience that perception that people who are 17, 18, or 19 years old are care free and how it sucks I missed out and now I am an adult who has responsibilities but I remind myself that I have something to look forward too.

It's things like that, you just have to try to sit with how you feel, thing through why you maybe feel that way, and think of strategies move forth
