Something is wrong with me. - September 6th 2021, 11:43 PM

I don't know what one to put this, sorry.

I take three showers a day and I still don't feel okay. I do this after reading or drawing or going to school or something else. I started this two months ago and I don't know what's wrong with me.

Hm, curious. Maybe is only stress! For example i continuing had to scratch my arms in a similar situation. Or maybe it's an allergy of a component of the paper.

Hey

First of all, there is nothing 'wrong with you', but it is always a good idea to ask for help if there are things bothering you or you're perhaps becoming too concerned with a particular activity. When you say you don't feel okay, what does this mean? Is it that you don't feel clean still?

You say this started a couple of months back. Did anything else happen around this time which could have triggered this? Perhaps this could help figure out what has bought this on for you.

I think that in the world we live in, many people have found that cleanliness has become a huge priority. It's important to find a balance between cleanliness and living though, and three showers a day does sound like it could be very time consuming! Perhaps there are ways you could challenge the feeling of needing to have a shower after doing tasks such as reading etc by using alternatives to showering, such as hand sanitizer. This way, you can still be hygienic, but you won't have to take up lots of your day showering. This is really helpful if you're out and about too!

You could also set aside specific times for showering. For example, maybe limit yourself to mornings and/or evenings. This way, you can focus on other things in between and keep some sort of structure to your day. It also helps to put you back in charge, because you are saying no to doing things you don't want to do until you're ready to do them without it hindering the rest of your day.

Arguing with yourself might be useful too. I do this whenever my head says things to me which I don't like! It's not a bad thing to challenge your own thinking and ask "why?" when you feel drawn to do a thing you don't necessarily want/need to do. When your head says to you "I've done some drawing, I need to shower", ask "why?" and try to answer the question. I find it helpful to carry on asking why until I've got to the point where I understand my thoughts more, or I've reasoned with myself enough to feel better! If it helps, you can also write this down so that in the future, you can look back over how you've rationalised things, and this might help you again and again.

I hope this has helped a bit!

Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out!

Showers are good, they help us relax. There is nothing wrong of you to shower several times as part of a daily routine. I too shower twice a day regardless of the season. However, if you feel that showers are not making you feel better, I would be concerned that there might be other underlying emotional issues that you would need to address first. Particularly since this has been going on for a few months.

Mental health is of utmost importance - the more we tend to it, the better we will feel. Is there a way you can reach out to a counsellor or psychologist in your vicinity? Since you're in school, you could reach out to your counsellor and they will be able to guide you.

Trust me, reaching out and asking for help is the first step towards feeling better. Help is there, we just have to reach out for it. That's the best way you can advocate for yourself and wellbeing.

Take care!
