I hate this - July 21st 2012, 03:31 AM

Well, the past few days to few weeks, i've been havin really bad anxiety attacks. It just keeps getting worse and worse. Its gotten so bad that its been effecting me at work and when i'm at home and trying to sleep, i can't. It just gets worse.

I know exactly what you're going through. I get really bad panic attacks and it's happening even more so since I'm about to go off to college. I was told that I forst have to isolate what's triggering the attaks (mine is usually a lot of pressure or just worries in general) then once i know what it is, they gave me a stress ball and sometimes i have to have a paper bag to breathe into to calm down.

I was told to do things that calm me down and that's how i discovered sulpey. It helps a lot. Talk to a doctor just in case, my friend has anxiety attacks, and she has to take pills to control it better.

Hi there.

I'm sorry you're expericing panic attacks. I too have struggled with panic attacks and I can relate to how they make you feel. I think coming here and asking for help is a really positive step in the right direction, so well done!

In the short term, I think you need to learn how to manage the panic attacks. What do you do when you feel one is starting? I know what helps me, is to sit down in a quiet place and to try and have one person I know sit with me and then i ground myself. Put my hands on the chair etc and remind myself where I am and that I am going to be okay. I then try and start doing deep breathing. I tend to breathe in for four and out for four and I do thst several times. Perhaps you could try it? I know some people find imaginin a 'safe place' such as their beds, a holiday, being with someone they love, helpful so you could try that too.

Now for the long run, I guess its about identyfying why you're having these panic attacks and working on whats causing them. You could try and keep a log where you write the date, time, place, who you're with, what you are doing and how you're feeling to see if you can find a pattern. You could then avoid any triggers or if they cant be avoided, you can put something in place which helps calm you down such as listening to music, being with someone you trust, reading a book, writing your thoughts down etc.

I just want all of this to go away. Friday is my last day of class till aug 20th. Maybe with me out of school for a few weeks, it will help me out some.
