Omegle - December 23rd 2013, 05:59 AM

I'm so scared. Idk if the cops are coming or not. I'm a good person! I was kinda horny and I was messing around on omegle. (I'm 13 btw) I think it was a sting chat but a girl told me to come and meet her. Playing around, I said I'm 19 I got a car. She told me to come pick her up and I said ok. Then a random message popped up and said you have been caught trying to meet and blah blah blah with a minor. It said it had my IP address. The girl said she was 15. I'm 13 I'm a minor I was kidding! Do you think the cops will come?

Whatever happens I don't think it's likely that cops will be coming to your place.

There's a good chance. They're really strict about that stuff and they have assemblies about it and I saw in a news paper plenty of times about people being arrested for that, but if you explain the situation then I don't think that they'll arrest you. But they might find something to charge you with. Idk. Just try not to be too worried. Everything will turn out fine.

That's not usually how it works. Usually, if it were a cop they wouldn't tell you that you were caught as soon as you close it. If they did that, then whoever the person they want to catch is can just get away before they get there.

Firstly, for crying out loud, unless your nineteen-year-old persona was to go to the girl's house and shag her, you wouldn't be guilty of any crime. Sure, arranging to meet someone you met on an online sexting facilitator is quite unsafe, but I don't know of any law in any democratic country which prevents or outlaws it.

Secondly, kid, you're thirteen. When I was thirteen, I played Pokemon. Slow the hell down, and get off Omegle, for your own sake. I wouldn't even advise somebody several years older than you to go near it.

And IF the police were to investigate this further ("IF" being the keyword... don't stress out about something that may never happen!), I'm sure they would see the situation for what it truly is. You're not a pedophile or "predator." You're a 13-year-old teen who was horny and played a prank on someone. 13-year-olds who make these sorts of mistakes don't go to jail or "juvie," don't get fined thousands of dollars, and so on. If they did, then there would be a LOT of teens out there with records. It's easy to let your fears get the best of you, but try to push those fears aside for a moment and think logically about the situation. Do you know any teens who were approached by police officers after doing something like this? Probably not. Even if you know one or two who WERE approached, how many faced the types of serious charges that you're worried about? Probably none.

I'm sorry if any of these posts only served to increase your anxiety. Realistically speaking, though, I sincerely doubt the police will pursue this. Dauntless made a good point... what kind of police force would give you a head's up before coming over to your house? It was probably the website's administration/moderating team issuing a warning about following their rules, not the police themselves. If the police decided to pursue this, then they would quickly discover you're not a 19-year-old with bad intentions for a teen. A stern lecture and perhaps some "scared straight" tactics would probably be the worst you could expect in a situation like this one. If anything, they'd probably want to caution you against going on Omegle because they don't want YOU to be targeted by an adult with bad intentions for YOU!

Re: Omegle - December 23rd 2013, 09:31 PM

I'm 99% sure they won't come but if they do you COULD be only could in not 100% but you could be charged with wasting police time... But as PSY said it was more than likely the admin off the chat no biggy so don't get scared or anxious iv had stuff pop up saying the police were coming because I was doing criminal thing on the computer (youtubes criminal now? Listening to music is criminal?) lol and they never turned up... As for your ip anyone can obtain an ip address all you need is a reader and you can get any ones ip so it could have also been a scam or a virus which iv had before and so have alot of others it normally says you need to pay money to a pay pal or what ever so best just ignoring it plus what pay and dauntless said the officer would have to have an IQ of 2 to send a warning first so don't worry about it

Could it have been a sting operation, where the girl is fake and they do that just to catch people like that?

I sincerely doubt it. Again, why would the police say, "We caught you!" BEFORE showing up at your house? It doesn't make sense. If you were a pedophile or "predator," then they wouldn't want to give you the chance to run away. It has been almost 24 hours, and no police officers have contacted you, so I think it's most likely that someone on Omegle who WASN'T affiliated with law enforcement sent that message.

Re: Omegle - December 24th 2013, 08:08 AM

In the USA, there are a variety of factors that would go into play. First off, you're thirteen and not nineteen. Some places they have to show intent with you actually showing up. Even then, you're younger than the girl so they aren't going to do anything except tell you that it's dangerous to meet people on the Internet. It's not like you can legally drive to begin with.

I think it's just Omegle trying to scare you. I am pretty sure I'd end up in jail considering the stuff that I say on Omegle all the time like asking people if I should sell my daughter in order to buy an iPad (I don't have a daughter and I am happy with just my iphone and ipod). People like to screw with each other all the time on there. I would even question if it was a legit pop up as the only one I've seen is the one saying that the cops/FBI have not been called when the other person insists they have.

Re: Omegle - December 25th 2013, 05:17 AM

It's the internet. Shit like this happens all the time. If the police don't contact you within a week, it's fake. Hell, I've received convincing FBI emails asking for all my personal information and I know for a fact scammers will hunt for your information like some people will hunt for a good laugh. Just go on with your life. There's no point in stressing over something that nil likely to happen. If I were you, I would have hung around and drilled whoever that was for my IP address. If they just thew a random string of numbers on the screen, I would laugh at their utter stupidity and go on with my life.
