Shakey hands and headaches - January 8th 2014, 07:48 PM

I get really nervous sometimes over a test or some event and I get bad anxiety. When I do my hands start shaking and trembling. I always try to get myself to relax like trying to calm myself down but that doesn't seem to work.
I also stress so much that I get headaches but sometimes I don't even know why I'm stressing over little things.

Any advice for my anxiety?

Hello Lindsey:

Anxiety is a weird thing that happens to a lot of us. However, anxiety can happen for no reason that you can't seem to understand why and other times you are aware why it's happening. It can also cause different symptoms for others but not the same for another, so everyone experiences anxiety differently.

It's understandable that you are having anxiety before tests. The shaking of your hands and clammy hands can be caused by anxiety. Having headaches are also caused by anxeity and other medical things. I would suggest going to a walk-in clinic or visit your family doctor so he/she is aware how you are feeling.

Do you write your tests in the classroom with your classmates? Could you ask if you could write them in a quiet place? This might help ease some anxieties. I would also recommend talking to your teacher(s) about how you feel before tests, he/she can provide you with some suggestions on who to prepare for tests and what you can do before tests.

I'd try doing breathing exercises. It'd help to look up some online. That can help particularly with the trembling. Making sure that you are taking deep breaths will decrease muscle tension so you are not trembling so much.
Doing yoga regularly can also decrease muscle tension.
For the headaches, I'd make sure that you are eating an adequate amount and drinking enough water since that can easily trigger headaches. Again, the yoga might relax you and can also decrease the headaches. For the shortterm, you could take ibuprofen but if it is triggered by your anxiety, it's important to address the origin of your headaches.
