Finally have a diagnosis but... what's next - April 2nd 2015, 07:03 PM

Ok, so I decided a while ago that I wanted someone to give me a diagnosis for my anxiety, just because I needed to hear that it wasn't in my head and that I wasn't being ridiculous or weak. Fortunately, I am totally there - Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The psychiatrist seemed impressed by the fact that I am so intelligent and successful, even if my intelligence makes it harder cause I put a lot of pressure on myself to excel and do well.

So I need to know, besides therapies and drugs, what helps people with anxiety? I really want to make things easier for myself, but I don't really know how. I don't know how to talk to a boss about what I need at work, and I don't know how to make sure I always get to exercise enough (even though it makes a difference for how I'll feel), I don't know how to not let my obligations overwhelm me, even if NOT doing stuff causes anxiety too...

Resources are much appreciated

Re: Finally have a diagnosis but... what's next - April 3rd 2015, 02:28 AM

Well for me, people always say just breath and stuff, but to be honest it works some of the time.. what I helped for me inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhail for 4 counts and repeat when you feel like you are gonna "lose it".

What works best for me is to distract myself.. Like I get anxious in public so I always have one ear bud on and I always pay attention to every word that song had or I pay attention to my phone (lol the typical teenager). If it something that ahead of time, I just use the typical distraction stuff like journeling, watching TV, coloring, etc. Stuff can go on.. Well that's just me! (:

About your boss, if you feel like you need to let your boss know, you can email him, or call.. If you don't want to face to face (I know it can get really awkward) and just give him heads up, you don't have to go into full detail unless you want to (: also its a good idea to know what your obligations because your health comes first before your job!! (:

I hoped I helped a little ! (:
