Who should I talk to? -
February 14th 2010, 03:38 AM
I'm pretty sure I have social anxiety...but I don't know who to talk to. What kind of doctor should I speak to, and how do I bring it up? Would a doctor help me to find a therapist? I'm really lost as to what will happen if I decide to actually get help and I hate not knowing about what I'm trying to do, it makes me so much more nervous and makes me worry :/

Well I'm pretty sure how it works is, you tell your normal doctor (GP), then from there, they'd recommend a therapist/psychiatrist to diagnose it..?

Hey,
If you think you have social anxiety then it's a good idea to go and see your doctor. Your regular GP should be fine; they can sort out therapy if that is what you need. I might be hard to bring up but it can be worth it if it helps you to get the help you need. It might be helpful for you and the doctor if you write down your symptoms and what has been going on beforehand and that way you can just show this to the doctor and it might be easier than saying it (especially if you get nervous when you are there). I know this is easier said than done but try not to worry about it. Doctors actually see plenty of people about mental health problems and they are used to it; most of them are very understanding! It's ok to be nervous but try and think about the positives of this ![]() Good luck! Jen |
